Bollywood box-office report of the week (August 27)

By Box Office Editor (Ansari)

COMING FRIDAY

Its another crowded week at the ticket window, with yet again four major releases. The list includes Bobby-Priyanka’s CHAMKU, the Tusshar-Raima starrer C KKOMPANY, MUKHBIIR with Samir Dattani and the Arjun-Farhan project ROCK ON!! It is but obvious that it will once again be injurious to the health of all the four releases, though the pack leaders are likely to be C KKOMPANY and ROCK ON!!, while CHAMKU and MUKHBIIR will vie for critical acclaim.
LAST FRIDAY

Last Friday had a big surprise in store. Though we had said that PHOONK and MAAN GAYE MUGHALL-E-AZAM were going to be the front runners, the flying start of PHOONK was a total surprise. Contrary to all expectations, the horror film opened to excellent houses. And that was the scene not just in one or two centres or a couple of circuits, but all over! With MAAN GAYE MUGHALL-E-AZAM, the companion release of PHOONK, taking a rather poor start, it is not surprising that the multiplexes have increased the shows of the destined to be super-hit, Ram Gopal Varma’s 3 crore PHOONK! About the other two releases, the lesser said the better. While MUMBAI MERI JAAN was another example of critical acclaim but no box-office rewards, MY FRIEND GANESHA 2 is an opportunity lost due to some shoddy work. Still all is not lost for the two as MUMBAI MERI JAAN is showing signs of some pick up based on positive feedbacks, while MY FRIEND GANESHA 2 was always going to be a DVD winner, at a later stage.
GOD TUSSI GREAT HO

Checking out the opening week response of the Amitabh, Salman, Sohail and Priyanka starrer GOD TUSSI GREAT HO, the film suffered on account of weak promotion and wrong release timing. 3. OVERSEAS REPORT

Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam managed around 10 lakhs business in International markets

Mumbai Meri Jaan did about 12 lakhs in the International markets.

Bachna Ae Haseena has 1.85 crore in UK, 2.35 crore in North America and 2.50 crore in the rest of the world. The ten day for all overseas markets is 6.70 crore. AVERAGE

God Tussi Great Ho will finish with total overseas business 2 crore. FLOP

Singh Is Kinng still dominates the International markets with 9.75 crore in United Kingdom, 9.50 crore in North America and 10.50 crore in the rest of the world. The total overseas business in 17 days is 29.75 crore and with United Kingdom and Pakistan going strong it should emerge a blockbuster with 34-35 crore business. Singh Is Kinng will the highest grosser outside 3-4 Shahrukh Khan starrers in Overseas.

Manoj can u describe me the last two lines what does that mean…what they want to say..SRK starrers were big or SIK is ahead….plus those SRK releases were less prints…then why to compare even?

  7. For Old Film Status you will get it in BOI. They are Accurate with there Classification. I crossed checked with Abid and Joginder and according to them BOI is right with Past Records. And they to say that they have sceen Old Film Information Trade Journals and Amitabh Movies Status were Smilar compared to BOI.

  8. I have Record from 1997 Onwards that to only Movies Box Office Status not Raw Gross or Net Gross.

From 2006 onwards I also have Net Gross of the Movies as well.

  9. Mustafa,

Don’t waste your time to pull down Amitabh since he is an icon, hits and flops do ont affect him as GTGH was eseentially a Salman film. AB had a small role. It would be crime to call it a AB film

  10. can u define the line i asked manoj about BOI overseas report of d week i posted….here

  11. Hit or no hit, BIG B will always remain a legend….ahead of all the stars of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

  12. Can you tell me what was the actual budget of Singh is King and for how much it was sold?????

  13. SIK needed 60 crores nett gross in India to be a hit.

  14. First week 43.77 crores, second week around 18 crores… so it is a hit now. and might remain only a hit.

  15. how come bah is just a average. It will make 9-10cr total in second week and get around 30-31cr in 2 weeks. I think we are looking at a close to 36-38cr for bah which makes it semi-hit

  16. inder
i think a hit cuz 18 cr was budget..

  17. anyway i heard bah and phoonk has done great
    busines on weekends

Bah did around 5-6cr in 3 days

Phoonk did 6cr in 3 days

  18. that is good news for YRF

  19. I am not Manoj, but I can explain you don_mansoor what BOI means. They mean that SIK will be 5th Highest Grosser of Indian Cinema in Overseas behind Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Om Shanti Om and Veer - Zaara. Plus it will be 1st Non Shah Rukh Khan Movie to get Blockbuster Status in Overseas.

  20. SIK wont earn more than 70 crore in india… it is just a hit.. it needs 60+ crore to be a hit…
    OSO was blockbuster…

  21. Yes Mustafa, BOI,Abid & Joginder almost always have similar information to share. They cover almost all the centres in india as well as overseas.
