‘SINGH IS KINNG’ BRIBES CRITICS; PREDICTED TO SET NEW RECORDS

Last Friday’s release Singh Is Kinng has taken the nation by storm and is expected to make excellent collections in its initial week; even more than Om Shanti Om’s first week collections. The movie was given the widest release ever for a Hindi film, in India and also in overseas. This was possible because of the availability of theatres (the movie released just before Singh Is Kinng like Ugly Aur Pagli, Mission Istaanbul and Money Hai To Honey Hai were flops and theatres were desperate to get these movies out of their theatres and replace it with a nice flick!) and also since this movie was one of the most awaited flicks of the year.

Prior to Singh Is Kinng, there were quite a few biggies which got such an extensive release. Dhoom:2 was released in Mumbai with 676 shows daily in its 1st week, and it made a collection of Rs. 6.59 crores in its 1st week in Mumbai. The biggest blockbuster of Indian cinema, Om Shanti Om, was released with 538 shows and yet collected Rs. 7.19 crores in 1st week in Mumbai, the highest for any Hindi movie so far! Last year’s comic caper Partner made a collection of Rs. 6 Crores in its 1st week in Mumbai with just 447 shows! And this year’s thriller Race got a similar extensive release like Dhoom:2-It’s released with 648 shows in Mumbai but collected just Rs. 5.83 Crores in its initial week.

But Singh Is Kinng surpassed them all! In its first week, the total number of shows daily in Mumbai are…hold your breath…724!! So if Om Shanti Om can do a massive collection of 7 crores, chances are Singh Is Kinng will make even a higher profit! The exact figure will be revealed once the week gets over!

There’s a big advantage in giving a movie such a wide release and it works big time if the movie is highly awaited by most of the moviegoers, like in the case of Singh Is Kinng-before the junta comes to know whether the film is nice or bad, the producers have already made their money and laugh all the way to the bank! And now these filmmakers are using a new trick-bribing the critics. The critics’ view and recommendation influences the decision of a moviegoer to a great extent. So if the critics are given a certain amount of money and are told (or rather ordered) to give a higher rating to a movie, it would naturally attract huge crowd.

And that’s what has happened with Singh Is Kinng too, it seems! Almost all the critics have given it a nice rating and have urged the viewers to go for it. And these same critics have thrashed almost all the Bollywood comic entertainers in the past! A classic example is Mayank Shekhar, the critic of Mumbai Mirror! He hates almost all the Hindi movies. He even gave a 2 rating to a movie like Johnny Gaddaar and Hindi comedy masala entertainers are not his cup of tea. Yet, he gave a 3 rating to Singh Is Kinng and says “Found myself laughing throughout!” Singh Is Kinng was not a first-rate flick and almost all the common people have given it thumbs down. And that’s why the recommendation of critics shocks and makes one think that something is definitely fishy!

This incident is a lesson for everyone-never take a critics’ view seriously. I have seen many people who say, “Let’s go for this movie. So-and-so newspaper gave it a 3.5 rating!” Listen to the views of your family member or relatives or your dear friends-they prove to be much better than critics! (The critics may not have been bribed and they really may have liked the movie; nothing can be said for sure. It’s just my own personal view and has high chances to be 100% true!) (The information regarding the collections of movies was taken from Indiafm.com.)

LO RANBIR AA GAYA!

Tomrrow, Yash Raj Films’ 3rd flick of the year, Bachna Ae Haseeno is all set to release. The previous two films of Yash Chopra this year, Tashan and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, have performed below expectations at the BO. But fortunately, the numero-uno production house has well promoted Bachna Ae Haseeno and it has already created hype due to the presence of star couple (Ranbir and Deepika) and also Bipasha Basu. The songs have also been loved by the people. Even though it has a tough competition in the form of the film God Tussi Great Ho which also released tomorrow, Bachna Ae Haseeno is at an advantage since it is expected to take a better start than the former.

Which movie will I watch first? Well, I’ll watch Bachna Ae Haseeno. And the reason is little weird-I am dying to see the new theatrical promo of Yash Chopra’s forthcoming animated flick, Roadside Romeo, which is going to be shown in the movie! The three promos of Roadside Romeo shown till now were promotional ones. But the promo to be shown with Bachna Ae Haseeno will consist of the scenes of the movie itself and I am dying to see it! That’s the reason why Bachna Ae Haseeno is keenly awaited by me!
