There has been a lot riding on this flick and why not when you have one of the hottest pairs Akshay and Katrina who return yet again after ‘Namastey London’. All the more hype when you have Anees Bazmee heading the ship. Bazmee’s track record at the box office says it all- Tremendous success with his previous ‘Welcome’ creating a box office record.
Now here we are with ‘Singh is Kinng’, with Vipul Amrutlal Shah who enjoyed much success with Akshay’s ‘Waqt’ taking his place as producer.
So does Akshay Kumar’s box office record especially overseas prove that he is the new King of Bollywood?
Synopsis…
Lakhan Singh aka Lucky [Sonu Sood] is the King of the Australian underworld, accompanied by his associates [played by Javed Jaffrey, Neha Dhupia, Manoj Pahwa, Yashpal Sharma, Kamal Chopra and Sudhanshu Pande]. Far away, in a small village in

To begin with ‘Singh Is Kinng’ relies heavily on the star value of Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif and not much has gone into the plot. No doubt that an Anees Bazmee flick has nothing much for the intellectuals and is usually loaded with some whacky lines and interactions between characters. But this time out, Anees fails at something he is an ace-Comedy. There seriously aren’t many funny lines or scenes and the movie gets lost in the glamworld scenario of splendid locales etc.
There seems to be a lack of focus in the film which takes off well as an idea of a Punjabi lad ‘Happy’ going out to get King but things get haywire with the action followed by the stretched out love triangle between Akshay-Katrina-Ranveer. To make things worse Javed Jaffrey who starts out well irritates with his act and what was the double role for?
At some point one would wonder whether the film was really made with a solid script or just with an initial thought further enhanced by the so called star power at the box office that Akshay has been enjoying .
Maybe the flick was a shot at Shahrukh who has rightfully been called the King of Bollywood for ages. And with much being said about the rift between Akki and Srk , a lot can be observed with certain sequences in the film drawing references to King Khan.
The cinematography is splendid and a little editing of the tracks would help. The music is entertaining no doubt enhanced by loads of colour but it just pops in and out anywhere. The Snoop Dogg version appears at the end while the credits roll.
Akshay Kumar no doubt excels with his performance but since there isn’t much sensibility in the emotional sequences in the film you don’t connect with him much the way you would in a ‘Humko Deewana Kargaye’ or ‘Namastey London’. Katrina is cute and fits the bill. She is sure to draw in the masses.
Neha Dhupia does real well and impresses. Sonu Sood emerges with a brilliant performance and gets his share of bollywood finally. Manoj Pahwa , Yashpal Sharma and Sudhanshu Pandey are ok. Om Puri does well. Kirron Kher is ok but the logic behind her shedding tears etc is so lame. Ranvir Shorey is ok. Jaaved Jaffrey annoys.
To sum it up , Akshay does well but the film is much below expectations and why not when the title’s got the word ‘King’ attached to it. Akshay is no doubt a great performer but with this film lacks the true persona of the ‘King’ and there’s still a lot more to get to that ‘King’ status. So for now , Khan is still King.

The whole world knows SRK is a media made star and we all know and have proofs of how SRK and his team buy media people for advertising. It was really impossible for any star to have survived such politics by any particular camp. But Akshay has managed to sustain and rise fighiting the waves from the fimy political camp. SRK is the most hated star of the millenium for his arrogance, hamming in most of his films, negative advertising and impudence. SRK doesnt even fit into the shoes of great Human Beings like Amitabh Bacchhan and good actors like Aamir, Akshay and Hrithik. We have never seen any jealous person than SRK. Even after reaching the top he didnt humble down. Thats the sign of a beggar who acheives too much out of no talent.so stop advertising for Shahrukh and find yourself a better respectable assignment!

SRK is KING along with Akhshy, Ammir and Hrihik……I think SRK fans are taking it hard to digest that SRK’s very limited as an actor…and now others are cathcing him up and matched him in various respects. Plus the fact that both Akshay and Hrithik are younger to SRK and have been accepted in roles where SRK wasn’t makes SRK’s future a dull too

SRK made himself look like a fool in film Ashoka where the basic characterization was wrong…A King is supposed to have moustache since that was symbolic of their pride. where as our Asoka was “mooch-munda”, a clean shaven chocolaty King” hahaha….that way Hrithik is more chocolaty but in Jodha-Akbar, atleast he had moustache that suited him.

Akshay is far big a Star Icon and Youth Icon than SRK. SRK is a snob and acts like a wannabe even after reaching undeserved position. Ask the kids who booed SRK on the sets of Paanchvi Paas. Even Devanand was better than SRK. Forget reaching Amitabh, Akshay, Aamir and Hrithik. SRK is a sub zero without his gay friendz! Ask his drivers and u will know why SRK goes to some Dargas at nite to be on top and what he does there!

Final conclusion: SRK is only good in romantic roles and that too in urbane roles….An actor should be able to do all kind of roles.
‘Singh Is Kinng’ may re-write box office history

The Akshay Kumar - Katrina Kaif starrer Singh Is Kinng may be getting mixed reviews, but trade analysts feel the film might re-write box office history as it opened to an excellent box office initial worldwide on Friday.
The film’s producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah said that box office collections on the opening day was a “historical 100 per cent” everywhere. “it is the biggest ever opening for any film so far,” he claimed.
‘Singh Is Kinng’ has been released in 1800 screens worldwide, he added.
When asked about the weekend and second week prospects for the film, Shah replied, “they look record breaking.”
When contacted, Sandeep Bhargava of Indian Films which has distributed the film worldwide said that according to distributors in India and overseas, ‘Singh Is Kinng’ has got a phenomenal initial opening.
“They say the opening is bigger than Om Shanti Om . However, it is too early to provide the comparative figures as the film has been released only today,” he added.
The much hyped and well published movie which is co-produced by Akshay himself was in the news all throughout its making. The actor’s recent movies have raked over Rs 500 crore and trade circles commented that the film’s title suggested Kumar’s attempt to replace Shahrukh Khan as the ‘King of Bollywood’.
However, critics and trade analysts are divided on their opinion about the film’s fate at the box office. Some critics are keeping their fingers crossed and feel that the euphoria will not last in the second week.
“Reports about the film’s content are mixed. With good publicity and hype, half the battle is won. But, I am not sure if the film will do well at the box office. The collections are sure to drop from Monday,” trade analyst Amod Mehra said.
According to Mehra, the script is not exciting enough to sustain through the second week with competition coming from Ranbir Kapoor starrer Bachna Ae Haseeno and Salman Khan ’s God Tussi Great Ho both releasing on August 15.
Meanwhile, another trade analyst Taran Adarsh described the film as a good entertainer. “Audience should not apply any logic to the film. Just enjoy it. It is fantastic. ‘Singh Is Kinng’ is made on a lavish scale and will re-write box office history.”
He said even though the film has its share of flaws and turn of events are not captivating at times, the proceedings move so fast and packs in so much, that there is no time to think and analyse.
Taran said despite the upcoming releases in the weeks to come, ‘Singh Is Kinng’ is set to rule the hearts of audiences, as it is their verdict which matters the most.
Senior film journalist and critic Ajay Brahmatmaj described the film as “completion of director Anees Bazmee ’s nonsense trilogy — No Entry , Welcome and now ‘Singh is Kinng.’ We hope he makes some sensible films in future,” he said but admitted that the box office opening of the film has been landmark.
“The good chemistry between Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif continues in this film as well. However, the fact is that script is always the king,” he added.

With Shah Rukh Khan, both Siddharth Basu of Synergy Adlabs and STAR were confident of the cult following that ‘Paanchvi Pass’ would generate. They were hoping to recreate the magic of ‘KBC’. And so confident they were that they launched the game show during the IPL extravaganza.
Blunder No.1. For a cricket starved nation, a game show is just a filler during the advertisements. ‘Paanchvi Pass’ was unveiled in April when the IPL - Twenty-20 mania had just about kicked in. It was the clash of the titans. Other channels shied away from unveiling new shows and more or less stuck to their tried and tested soaps. But Star decided to take a gamble and launch ‘Paanchvi Pass’. They were hoping to cash in on the SRK mania.SRK did voice his dissent. Juggling between promoting his Kolkata Knight Riders and his back to back commitments with Star did leave him a little sore.
We had reported earlier that King Khan wasn’t keen on kick starting ‘Paanchvi Pass’ because he felt that there would be a clash of interests, but Star wanted to cash in on his onscreen magnetism.
A game show is a fantastic concept. Edu-entertainment is the new TRP churner, but a regular diet does tend to make it a tad boring. And that is exactly what happened with the show. The SRK magnetism refused to hold the show together. TRP’s dropped to an abysmal level. Slowly, the audience shifted loyalties to the IPL. And when they had enough and more of cricket, they decided to watch Salman Khan perform his antics…that was a novelty because by then Shah Rukh was old news.
To give our King Khan credit, he did try to pull back the TRP’s with celeb power. But the TRP’s still continued to stick to a dismal 2 to 2.6 percent. From SRK loyalists - KJo and Rani Mukherji to our Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav - the show refused to make the climb on the charts. Even though the channel has SRK’s dates for 52 episodes, they have decided to stick to the original contract of 36 episodes and pull it off air after that.
Are we going to see Season II in the near future? Siddharth Basu, on a defensive note, said, ” That is a call that the channel would need to take.” The channel seemed to pussy foot around questions and refused to comment. Our close source however managed to slip it in that, “there are talks of replacing it with another show. Non-fiction or fiction is still being worked on.”
And our bets are hedged on the ‘Mahabharatha’, Star Plus’s magnum opus. With 9X gunning for an August release, Star Plus is feeling the heat and may decide to slot their Mahabharatha in the same time slot as ‘Paanchvi Pass’. There are a couple of daily soaps in the pipeline, but they would need a strong show to retain their prime time slot.

Hrithik has given a silver jubilee in JA, BIG B has given above avg in Bhootnath and HIT in SR and now Akki has govena blockbuster in SIK breaking OSO’s record. So, keep thinking of SRK’a past laurels and live in a fool’s paradise.

IF SIK does that..i will accept AK as the new king for the time being.If not then you have to accept SRK as the king.

According to trade figures released on Monday, Singh Is Kinng grossed 59.50 crore worldwide over its first three days. This is a new worldwide record smashing the 50 crore worldwide total set in November 2007 by Om Shanti Om. The highest worldwide total for 2008 was by Race which grossed 45 crores.
Trade analysts believe that following this run at the box office Akshays per film rate could very well hit the 50 crore mark very soon.

OSO grossed 86 Cr in India with 1000 Prints and 36 Cr overseas with 300 Prints.
SIK has released in 1400 Prints in India and 300 prints overseas.
so if it is as successful as OSO it should collect 57 Cr in the first week as it has 40 % more print counts in the first week.
See..Arun…i have nothing against Akshya Kumar though.I appreciate his success in last two years and dont want to take any credit out of him.Great opening for SIK proves that he can be taken in the same bracket as SRK,HR,amir in the BO.
One more thing is OSO had a great competition in Sawariya where SIK do not have any competition.Nor that it would have done any difference to the response.But it would have released in lesser prints had there been any competition and hence the collection would have been lesser .

Khakee was BIG B’s movie and Akshay had a smaller role. Even Tushar had a smaller role. So u see here u fool. People make films for BIG B, they design stories around him…That’s the power.
As regards BIG B’s SR,Bhoothnath,Aag,Nishabd,Cheeni kum are concerned, atleast he is getting work at age 66, we will see what happens to SRK at age 50??? His 10 films are age 50 will not be able to match the BO coolections of BIG B’s those 4-5 films.

Riding on the shoulders of the charismatic Akshay Kumar and beautiful Katrina Kaif , the film has become a rage among the movie buffs not only in India but also in USA, the UK, UAE and even Pakistan.
