Manoj wants stay on ‘OSO’ telecast

THE TIMES OF INDIA (August 6, 2008)

Mumbai: Veteran actor Manoj Kumar has filed a plea in a city civil court asking for a stay on the telecast of the film, Om Shanti Om.

Soon after the film was released in 2007, Kumar had objected to the manner in which he was portrayed in it. Kumar’s plea said the scene that offended him the most was the one in which a character resembling him was shown trying to enter the premiere show of a movie. The same character was shooed away by guards and “even beaten with a stick’’, the application added.

The plea stated that Kumar was proud of his reputation in the public sphere and, owing to the “services he had rendered in the interests of the nation’’, he was also referred to as “Bharat Kumar’’. It said every actor had his own style of acting but the movie ridiculed him.

Kumar told the court that after he first raised objections to the scenes, Yash Chopra tendered an apology and assured him that the “offensive” portions would be deleted from the print. Chopra had acted as a mediator between director Farah Khan and Kumar.

Kumar sought a stay on the telecast of the movie saying it would “greatly harm his reputation”. He argued that as more people saw movies at home these days than in theatres, he wanted the “offensive” scenes to be cut before the telecast.

Besides, Kumar also said Chopra had promised him that the scenes would be removed from the VCDs and DVDs of OSO as well. Now, Kumar wants the court to order their removal. The matter will be heard on Wednesday.

Kumar told TOI, “I recently learnt about Shah Rukh Khan getting upset after a prisoner, who allegedly got rashes on his body after using a product endorsed by the actor, sent him a legal notice. I heard Shah Rukh talking about his image being tarnished because of this. I hope he can understand my plight.”

Kumar also plans to file a defamation suit and claim damages for the “distortion” of his image in OSO. “I have to consult my lawyer for this. Right now, I want is a stay on the telecast of the film.”

  1. Manoj Kumar says “more people saw movies at home these days than in theatres”. This is the worst thing I have heard in this yr!

  2. He gets it,
The court has ordered to remove the scenes before the telecast.

  3. Manoj Kumar is makming a mountain of a mole hill

  4. He is just trying to get some publicity.

What does he try to prve by saying that he is Bharat Kumar? So, if you make films on patriotism you become very patriotic. Going by this definition, RGV is an underworld don ‘coz of the kind of movies he makes.

Such lame excuse! Such stupid logic!

  5. This is just another form of backmail. It was OK till he thought that SRK will star in an upcomming movie of his.

  6. Hi Shaan bhai!!!!!
Dont see u at all nowadays at Fk….whats up?

  7. Imfrz & Shaan, you are absolutely right, its Manoj Kumar’s bonus life, and he can’t make earning so, he has to do something for earning, isn’t it? Tell me now in SIK they have humiliated in a very nasty way to SRK, so, what is he going to do? Nothing. And this time its been done in a hatredwothy way. But OSO wasn’t done in that way it was totally a comedy. And SRK * Farah have asked for apologies more than once, everytime he says OK, and then again Manoj k, starts the same tune. And at last he is happy being wound up by * quite a lot of people* in the bolly industry against SRK. Its not that they won the case against the film, no, *they* won the case of the * JEALOUSY * from SRK. Never mind, KING KHAN, have patience, and GOD will help you. So what if its their time today, and that one is filthy as well, your BEST time is very soon on its way, INSHAALLAH. & Ameen!

  8. Pffff, what you guys don’t understand is that all this is part of the trade! Why do you think that everybody is having a dig at Srk these days??Do you know this saying:”In proportion to the worth, the level of people’s criticism rises”…When you have been the Numero Uno for such a long time now,you don’t actually expect people,as great hypocrites,to remain quiet! And,well, srk is not the humble and modest type…so it’s no big deal that films like Halla bol and SIK portray srk as an undeserving actor for the n0 1 throne!Lol..

  9. SRK would come back very strongly after all this bashing and all.Just wait till end september.

  10. Come back stringly as in RNBDJ???? The same film where a 43 yr old romances a teenage girl??? Is this reallly acceptable by SRK fans???Becuase i remember distinctively, that there were huge criticisms when Amitabh had done similar role in Nishabd and was romancing Jiah Khan… So will the double standards of SRK fans remain intact or will it get and exception because their idol, SRK is doing that film. If so, that would be a real hypocrisy…
I would not be surprised if people say that Nishabd and RNBDJ are different because in the former, a 60 yr old was romancing a teenager where as in this latter, the guy is only 43 yr old. So the difference is less and hence acceptable….

Let’s talk of present…SIK has opened BIG and broken records of SRK’s OSO and he is also a KING now. Plus Akki is getting more remuneration that any other actor, so he is indeed a KING.
