Bollywood box-office report of the week (July 30)

COMING FRIDAY

The coming Friday will see an almost open week with the Mallika Sherawat and Ranvir Shorey starrer UGLY AUR PAGLI being the solo Hindi release, as MUKHBIIR has once again been postponed. It translates into an advantageous position for UGLY AUR PAGLI and another earning week for the oldies like KISMAT KONNECTION and JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA.

LAST WEEK

Both the releases of last week, MISSION ISTAANBUL and MONEY HAI TOH HONEY HAI, failed to impress. While the Vivek, Zayed and Shreya starrer MISSION ISTAANBUL had a poor opening in Bombay, it was weak to ordinary everywhere, MONEY HAI TOH HONEY HAI featuring Govinda, Manoj, Upen and Hansika had a dull start in Bombay and was dull to ordinary elsewhere. Both the films are likely to go unnoticed at the ticket window.

KISMAT KONNECTION

After a great weekend, KISMAT KONNECTION dropped from Monday. At many places, the fall in collections was huge. During the week, the Aziz Mirza directed film collected 3.50 crores from Bombay, 1.05 crores from Ahmedabad, 1.50 lakhs from Anand, 1.70 lakhs from Palanpur, 1.20 lakhs from Deesa, 9.60 lakhs from Rajkot, 2.60 lakhs from Patan, 4.35 lakhs from Himmatnagar, 4 lakhs each from Jamnagar and Bhavnagar, 2.75 lakhs from Gandhidham, 1.55 lakhs from Adipur, 2.10 lakhs from Sangli, 3.70 lakhs from Solapur, 21 lakhs from Pune, 10 lakhs from Nasik, 1.55 crores from Delhi city, 30 lakhs from Noida, 16.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 8.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 20 lakhs from Lucknow, 4.25 lakhs from Agra, 2 lakhs from Allahabad, 3.70 lakhs from Meerut, 1.15 lakhs from Moradabad, 1.80 lakhs from Bareilly, 2.35 lakhs from Aligarh, 2.75 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 37.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 16.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 3 lakhs from Panipat, 70 lakhs from Calcutta, 3.30 lakhs from Guwahati, 26 lakhs from Nagpur, 2.30 lakhs from Jabalpur, 1 lakh each from Bhandara, Gondia, Ujjain and Wardha, 3.25 lakhs from Amravati, 2.10 lakhs from Raipur, 1.45 lakhs from Chandrapur, 19 lakhs from Indore, 1.75 lakhs from Sehore, 4 lakhs (gross) from Ajmer, 4.10 lakhs from Bikaner, 1.70 lakhs from Kota, 50 lakhs (approx.) from Jaipur, 6.50 lakhs from Mangalore, 3.50 lakhs from Nanded, 1.30 lakhs from Warangal and 44 lakhs from Hyderabad. During its opening week, KISMAT KONNECTION has netted exactly 20.60 crores from India. And that without releasing at most of the PVR cinemas. The Shahid-Vidya starrer is set for another decent weekend and at least a semi-hit status from here on. KISMAT KONNECTION has also done quite well in the US grossing $ 430,822.
Box Office Status: Awaited.

CONTRACT

CONTRACT has very poor collections to show. The film manages 45 lakhs from Bombay, 12.60 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3.75 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.30 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1.85 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 3.65 lakhs from Pune, 1.20 lakhs from Solapur, 1.55 lakhs from Nasik, 19.35 lakhs from Delhi City, 3.10 lakhs from Noida, 3.75 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 6.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Agra, 6 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.05 lakhs from Faridabad, 2.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 2.50 lakhs from Indore, 1.15 lakhs from Jaipur, 13.25 lakhs from Hyderabad and 1.75 lakhs from Aurangabad. In its first week CONTRACT manages just around 2.35 crores from India and is another failure for Varma.

Box Office Status: Flop.

JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA

Meanwhile Aamir Khan and PVR Pictures’ JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA moves on, though with the first perceptible fall, perhaps in the wake of KISMAT KONNECTION. The film collected 1.25 crores from Bombay, 28.35 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.60 lakhs from Rajkot, 2 lakh from Jamnagar, 1.10 lakh from Gandhidham, 12 lakhs from Pune, 1.20 lakhs from Solapur, 1.05 lakh from Sangli, 3.70 lakhs from Nasik, 1.10 crores from Delhi city, 13 lakhs from Noida, 7.75 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 5.15 lakhs from Kanpur, 11.45 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.30 lakhs from Agra, 1.10 lakhs from Allahabad, 1.65 lakhs from Meerut, 1.20 lakhs from Bareilly, 1.40 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 1.50 lakhs from Aligarh, 1.85 lakhs ftom Muzaffarnagar, 1.70 lakhs from Amritsar, 25 lakhs from Gurgaoan, 5.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.10 lakhs from Panipat, 1.30 lakhs from Calcutta, 14.65 lakhs from Nagpur, 2 lakhs from Amravati, 2.40 lakhs from Raipur, 2.10 lakhs from Wardha (first week), 1 lakh (approx) from Pathankot and Sagar, 13.25 lakhs from Indore, 4 lakhs from Bhopal, 15 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.60 lakhs from Ajmer, 1.30 lakhs from Bikaner, 37.85 lakhs from Hyderabad, 2.50 lakhs from Aurangabad and 3.45 lakhs from Mangalore. During its latest outing, JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA added another 8.75 crores and has so far netted an impressive 46.25 crores from India. JAANE TU… YA JAANE NA has also impressed in the US, grossing $ 440,717.
Box Office Status: Blockbuster in India & Hit in Overseas.

LOVE STORY 2050

Moving on to Harry Baweja’s LOVE STORY 2050, starring Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra, the film is on its last legs. With another 20 lakhs, LOVE STORY 2050 has netted a poor 13 crores in three weeks from India. The film is a global trade disaster and Adlabs are likely to lose close to 20 crores.
Box Office Status: Global Trade Disaster.

THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC

Our last entry of the day, Yash Raj’s joint production with director Kunal Kohli, THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC, is on its way out from the cinemas. During the week, the film collected 1.85 lakhs from Bombay, 2.45 lakhs from Delhi, 1.15 lakhs from Noida, 1.80 lakhs from Gurgaon and 1.30 lakhs from Hyderabad. Adding a paltry 25 lakhs, the Saif-Rani starrer has netted a poor 23.25 crores in four weeks from India and is another failure for Yash Raj Films. The film has also flopped in the Overseas, grossing $473,706 from UK and $365,401 from the US.

Box Office Status: Worldwide Flop.

  2. Hello Manoj! Was very Busy with work. But I am reading the post in FK and samething is going on and on. So staying away doesn’t made any difference. I think Amitabh Fans situation is even more worst than last time.
