Aamir goes to Sarkar
July 15th, 2008 • Related • Filed Under
There seems to be a new mutual admiration society happening in Bollywood these days.
And it’s between none other than Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan. The mutual bonding began with Amitabh going for the premiere of Aamir Khan’s nephew’s Jaane Tu… and coming out and praising the film.
And now it’s Aamir’s turn to return the favour. So over the weekend, Aamir and his wife Kiran went to see Sarkar Raj at a special show organised for them. We hear the couple later dropped in at Amitabh’s house to compliment the Bachchans on their fine performances.

But the Southern Culture pays more respect to the Directors and other Sr. Technicians. Shree Devi, went straight to them, exchanged greetings and only then, turned to Amitabh.
The Gentleman eternal, for these full SIX minutes, stood motionless, his hands still folded, smiling.

Shah Rukh Khan, with his ‘Allies’, in an Award Function, tried his best, and succeeded in demoralising and defaming his Fellow actors ( Insult, disguised as Wit). A Habit he has cultivated for years and carries on in home productions too (Om Shanti Om).
Recently, when Superstat Rajnikant named Amitabh and not Shahrukh as Bollywood’s biggest star, the latter immediately questioned him ” Sir, what does it take to be ” Biggest Star ” ?
Rajnikant’s reply was decent and modest. But he could have said -
Nothing succeeds like Success, but to sustain it till old age, one requires to be Amitabh.

The Clear Picture on Amitabh Bachchan So Called Super Stardom
By Mohan
I am not a SRK fan but all i can say is that Bachchan was not the star he is made out to be. I have a lot of proof with trade mags which i will provide at some time.
The first thing i would like to say is that before Amitabh entered film industry it was a family but manipulation started with Bachchan. The problem is people like me know what happened becuase we were there but what comes out after the event is not like it was.
Here is an actual glace of Bachchan’ career.
1968
Bachchan cannot make much headway in the industry so his mother asks Indira Gandhi for help the saying that her son is adamant at being a film hero but due to his looks nobody is giving him a channce. Indira goes to Dutt saab (Sunil) to see if he can do anything. Dutt Saab and Nargis are closest to Indira in film industry. Dutt saab does not have anything but he can’t say no to Indira Gandhi. He gives Bachchan a role in Reshma aur Shera. There are problems as Bachchan wants Vinod Khanna’s role but Vinod is doing Dutt Saab’s Man Ka Meet and is a favourite for him. Bachchan is relegated to the background with a role of a dumb mute but he he is now in contact with the right people and roles are coming. The roles are mainly in small films or side roles.
1969
His first release Saat Hindustani is low key.
Somehow he manages to get Anand which stars superstar Rajesh Khanna. Its a small role but a film with Kaka means in the limelight.
1970
Anand releases and does well. Its Kaka’s film but Bachchan is noticed.
1971
Dutt saab suffers big loses with Reshma aur Shera, Bachchans first film as hero Pyar Ki Kahani is a disaster, his next where he plays second lead to Navin Nishcol Parwana also does not make impact. Mehmood’s Bombay To Goa does better but does nothing for Bachchan’s career as he just does not look hero material.
1972
Sanjog, Bansi Birju, Ek nazar Raaste Ka Pathar bite the dust and how. Its pack up time.
Now Prakash Mehra and Dharamji are making a film called Samadhi. Dharamji has a script with him by Salim Javed which he wants Prakash Mehra to direct, both are very busy and give it six months to start the movie. Six months later Dharamji is doing a film called Yaadon Ki Baraat which he feels is similar to the Salim Javed scripted one so Dharamji tells Mehra who loves the script to take the script from him and make it with someone else. Prakash Mehra approaches Raaj Kumar and Dev Saab but they refuse. Mehra is in a fix when Pran Saab tells him about this lambu hero who is looking for work. Mehra is not too confident but with a good word from Pran saab, Hrishikeshda and Indira Gandhi, Mehra goes ahead and launches Zanjeer in Nov 1972, it is to be a quickie.
1973
Zanjeer is made quickly and it releases in May 1973 and after a slow start it is a hit. This is where everyone believes Bachchan became a superstar but it was nothing like that. What Zanjeer did was give him a life line. Two months later his Bande Haath bit the dust without an opening. Zanjeer was forgotten. Bachchan was not a star yet let alone superstar. Bachchan knows Zanjeer has given him a chance and he needs to consolidate. Around October 73 the Sippy’s are making a very big film with Dharamji and are looking at Shatru bhai for the supporting role. Now Dharamji is fond of Shatru bhai but Bachchan goes to Dharamji and asks him to put in a recommendation for him to the Sippys fully well knowing that Shatru is candidate No1. Dharamji puts in a recommendation for Bachchan and Sippy’s are not going to refuse Dharamji. Its only later that Shatru Bhai tells Dharamji that he was in the running for the role and Dharamji tells him if he knew that he would never have got Bachchan the role.
But Bachchan is on cloud nine, he is in Sholay and Salim Javed are accepting Bachchan for their films. He has it made and offers come from Gulshan Rai (Deewaar), B R Chopra (Zameer), Manoj Kumar (Roti Kapada Aur Makaan) and others.
The box office is still not being kind. Gehri Chaal(second lead) and Saudagar flop. Abhimaan does average business. Namak Haraam also does okay. Now the media would like to believe this is where Bachchan toppled Kaka but it was nothing like that. No doubt Bachchan was appreciated in the role but this was not the Kaka of Anand, Kaka was gone earlier with flop after flop (Maalik, Raja Rani, Mehboob Ki Mehndi, etc). Kaka had already been toppled by Dharamji so there was no question of Bachchan toppling Kaka and becoming the No1.
Media believes Zanjeer made Bachchan No1 but it was nothing like that. At the end of 73 Dharmji, Kaka, Panditji (Manoj), Jeetu bhai, Dutt Saab, Dev Saab, Chintu (Rishi) and others were all bigger then him. Alos you had the white horse Yusuf saab (Dilip Kumar) who was in self imposed exile.
Bachchan’s biggest strike was to somehow get into Sholay and this made other makers look at him because after Dharamji and Dutt saab he was the only choice for action roles as all the rest were more romantic types.
Tired writing now and will do some more in the next few days. Look out for.
1. Bachchan wanted superstar tag after Deewaar and went for kill but fell flat on his face
2. One of his biggest hits Muqqadar Ka Sikander failed to get opening in places.
3. Ramraj Nahta and B.K Adarsh the men who helped Bachchan the most.
4. Losing many battles with same day releases with contemparies.
5. Bachchan was never off media he was off Stardust which led to support from the other magazines.
6. Prakash Mehra and Manmohan Desai nearly come to blows with Naseeb and Laawaris

Vijay!
AB bowed to Sridevi ‘coz she was a bigger star than AB by 1988. He had not even a single hit for last 3 years. She had the onus to make the movie a hit. It was like Sanjay Kapoor holding hand for Madhuri Dixit during the making of Raja.
Regarding Filmfare Award 2008, everyone knows and understands that everything that was said and done was in good spirit. Akshay Kumar and everybody else were also tacitly involved in it.
As far as AB and RGV are concerned, they deserved to be humiliated. Tell me, what has AB and RGV given us by making the remake of Sholay?

Comment by Arun on 15 July 2008:
Imfrz,
SRK is a non-existent actor. he is the most pathetic actor Bollywood has seen in terms of acting. He copies and makes fun of people. That’s all he can do. nothing else.AB WAS,IS AND WILL ALWAYS LEGEND. And all SRK fans can try as hard as possible but SRK can’t reach the status of BIG B ever in his dreams. Now Akshay is the KING. Today’s TOI and even radio channels all declared AKSHAY AS THE UNCROWNED KING…AMITABH RULED FROM 1973 till 1992, non stop and single handedly where as it’s been proven that SRK had gaps in his stardom. He has not been able to give solo blockbusters alone, had to take shelter in Kajol in DDLJ.
Comment by Arun on 15 July 2008:
I think the concept of KINGS are not restricted to one actor these days….unlike it was in Amitabh’s time. In his time, no one came near him, he was the numero uno…in terms of remunaration, in terms of BO collections, in terms stage shows etc. But today, if u have SRK, then u have Akshay and Hrithik and Ammir fetching more remunration than him, even Salman got a whopping 89 crores for 10 ka dum..more than what SRK got for Panchwi Paas. So all are kings in one or the other way. Similarly, aamir’ remuneration is more than SRK’s. No one pays u if u don;t perform and it’s not just for one or 2 occasions. Its consistent. Plus in Amitabh’s time, he had as much as 6 releases in a year and all of them hitting the bull’s , eye….where as today, SRK does 1 or 2 films a year and that too with known banners like YRF etc and do not have the charisma to give 6 hits in a year. Infact he has not given those many films in his career in a year. So here lies the big difference and that’s why BIG B is aptly named the EMPEROR…and everyone knows EMPEROR is bigger than the KING….
The Bachchans’ world tour ‘Unforgettable’, is already making waves in Trinidad and Tobago as advance bookings for the show this month have been overwhelming.
Reports are that the event is expected to be a complete sell-out even though ticket prices are beyond the reach of the average fan.

‘Paanchvi Pass’ pass nahin
With Shah Rukh Khan, both Siddharth Basu of Synergy Adlabs and STAR were confident of the cult following that ‘Paanchvi Pass’ would generate. They were hoping to recreate the magic of ‘KBC’. And so confident they were that they launched the game show during the IPL extravaganza.
Blunder No.1. For a cricket starved nation, a game show is just a filler during the advertisements. ‘Paanchvi Pass’ was unveiled in April when the IPL - Twenty-20 mania had just about kicked in. It was the clash of the titans. Other channels shied away from unveiling new shows and more or less stuck to their tried and tested soaps. But Star decided to take a gamble and launch ‘Paanchvi Pass’. They were hoping to cash in on the SRK mania.SRK did voice his dissent. Juggling between promoting his Kolkata Knight Riders and his back to back commitments with Star did leave him a little sore.
We had reported earlier that King Khan wasn’t keen on kick starting ‘Paanchvi Pass’ because he felt that there would be a clash of interests, but Star wanted to cash in on his onscreen magnetism.
A game show is a fantastic concept. Edu-entertainment is the new TRP churner, but a regular diet does tend to make it a tad boring. And that is exactly what happened with the show. The SRK magnetism refused to hold the show together. TRP’s dropped to an abysmal level. Slowly, the audience shifted loyalties to the IPL. And when they had enough and more of cricket, they decided to watch Salman Khan perform his antics…that was a novelty because by then Shah Rukh was old news.
To give our King Khan credit, he did try to pull back the TRP’s with celeb power. But the TRP’s still continued to stick to a dismal 2 to 2.6 percent. From SRK loyalists - KJo and Rani Mukherji to our Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav - the show refused to make the climb on the charts. Even though the channel has SRK’s dates for 52 episodes, they have decided to stick to the original contract of 36 episodes and pull it off air after that.
Are we going to see Season II in the near future? Siddharth Basu, on a defensive note, said, ” That is a call that the channel would need to take.” The channel seemed to pussy foot around questions and refused to comment. Our close source however managed to slip it in that, “there are talks of replacing it with another show. Non-fiction or fiction is still being worked on.”
And our bets are hedged on the ‘Mahabharatha’, Star Plus’s magnum opus. With 9X gunning for an August release, Star Plus is feeling the heat and may decide to slot their Mahabharatha in the same time slot as ‘Paanchvi Pass’. There are a couple of daily soaps in the pipeline, but they would need a strong show to retain their prime time slot.

AMITABH WAS A SHAHENSHAH from 1973 to 1992…almost 20 yrs. And SRK’s successes are not constant…ALready proved that below actros were superstars during diff. years.

1997- Sunny Deol
1999- Salman Khan
2000- Hrithik Roshan

Vijaya,
Aamir and Amitabh are not confident of fighting SRK all alone hence joined hands.(If It is really true.I doubt it though as i know Aamir is clever enough to join hands with a big looser like BIG B)
But the biggest losser here will be Aamir Khan.
Because Even If aamir is no match to Srks BO Clout but still he is one of the most popular stars. But joining hands with BIG B (Should call him BIG L i.e Big Looser)Aamir is doomed to give some disaters.Because Amitabh has developed a uncanny habit of delivering atleast one disater per year.
I only hope ,this time the disaster is not with aamirs movie.

Arun!
You are a moron. No matter how much logic you are presented with, you don’t come out of your illusionary world.
AB in his entire career hasn’t given a single blockbuster on his own. All his movies that are a worth mentioning are multistarrers. If he was ever a big star he should have been able to pull in enough crowd on his own to make atlest a few of his movies a blockbuster.
Even AB says that SRK is the superstar of today and he doesn’t figure anywhere, but still you keep saying that AB is having a great run even today.
Is Nishabd, Aag, Bhootnath and SR are your benchmark of performance and box-office collection?
The truth is no one wants to see AB today, because he has eroded his legacy by doing one stupid movie after another. No one believes that he can deliver the goods.
If you think a few films like Mohabbatein, K3G and others in his second run were successful ‘coz of AB, you are a blind AB fanatic. God save you.
The truth is AB is a worthless shit today. Even an Emraan Hashmi is miles ahead of him. And I’ve rational reasons to belive this.
As far as Akki is concerned, he has a long way to go before he can be compared with SRK. Two years performance can’t be used to classify him as a KING or a SUPERSTAR. Hrithik is a bigger star than Akki today. Akki will have to give atleast two more such years to be compared with SRK or Hrithik. And remember Akki’s last movie was a super flop.
Comment by Mustafa on 16 July 2008:
Arun I agree Amitabh has created a Benchmark in many things. Here is the List:-
(1) Sarkar Raj Highest Net Grosser in Flop Films. (I don’t think this Record can be Challenged).
(2) 40 Years without Solo Blockbuster and Solo All Time Blockbuster. But Rated Super Star of Millenium by BBC (Don’t know how much Amitabh Payed for it).
(3) Only Star in Indian Cinema History to have Maximum Multi Starrer Hits.
(4) Only Star in Indian Cinema History to have Maximum Multi Starrer Movies and getting Overshadowed. Shakti (Dilip Kumar), Mohabbatein and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan), Ek Rishta - The Bond of Love, Khakee and Waqt - The Race Against Time (Akshay Kumar), Kaala Pathar and Dostana (Shatrugan Sinha) and Hera Pheri and Muqaddar Ka Sikander (Vinod Khanna).
(5) Only Star in Indian Cinema History to get Overshadowed by Character Actors in His Solo Movies. Sharabi, Kaalia, Zanjeer and Don (Pran), Saate Pa Satta and Yaarana (Amjad Khan), Dev (Om Puri), Bhootnath (Shah Rukh Khan) and Mard (Nirupa Roy).

I dont think,Dilip Kumar ruled Bollywood ever.He was a great actor but he was never dominant. In fact during his time it was Devanad ,raj kapoor and Rajendra Kumar who dominated from time to time.
