Fenil’s Bollywood Talk # 4

Every Thursday, your very own movie-buff MSian Fenil will talk everything about Bollywood (latest releases, controversies, cold wars between stars etc) and my opinions on the goings-on in the Hindi Film Industry!

THIS WEEK’S TOPIC: It’s time to REJOICE!

I was in utter shock when I called Starcity Theatre (Mumbai) on Sunday evening and asked them whether the tickets for Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na are available for next day and the reply I got was ‘No’! I was hugely disappointed as I had planned to see this movie on Monday at Starcity but all my plans went haywire. Not only in Starcity, all shows of Monday were housefull in other single screens too! But later I was happy that chalo, at last after a very long time, people are going in theatres, and watching movies even on a busy day like Monday!

I finally got to see the movie on Tuesday, and the crowd inside the theatre was over-enthusiastic and excited! The crowd began screaming as soon as the name of the movie came on the screen. They were enjoying a lot; laughing heartily and passing some stupid comments in between! All this made the entire experience quite enjoyable but the best thing was that the movie itself was really enjoyable. It was absolutely rocking, and after Jodhaa Akbar, Race, Aamir; this is one of the finest movies to have come out in this year.

Aamir Khan has again emerged as a winner with Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na! The movies which he had produced earlier (Lagaan and Taare Zameen Par) were blockbusters and I am sure in few weeks’ time, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na would also be credited as a blockbuster!

Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na was initially produced by late Jhamu Sugandh. Unfortunately, Mr Sugandh suffered a financial loss and he backed out of the film. No one was then willing to take up the film. However, when Aamir Khan heard the script, he fell in love with it and he decided to produce it! And the film took an earth-shattering opening! And the producers who had initially refused to produce it must be chewing their heads now!

So much is the demand for Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na that the exhibitors and distributors have decided to increase its shows from tomorrow (Friday). And because of this, the two movies scheduled for release tomorrow (Mukhbiir and Good Luck) have been postponed to August 1!

And next week Kismat Konnection is scheduled for release which is also expected to take a fantastic opening. The dry period in Bollywood has surely ended!
