Shah Rukh is too old for ‘Kismet Konnection’: Aziz Mirza
Aziz Mirza’s “Kismet Konnection” does not star Shah Rukh Khan, the leading man of his previous films, because the director feels he is now too old to play young roles.
“Shah Rukh is too old for the role in ‘Kismet Konnection’. The role is about the life of a 26-year-old and Shah Rukh is 40 plus. It doesn’t suit him,” Mirza told IANS over phone from Mumbai.
But Mirza has his other blue-eyed actor Juhi Chawla in a supporting role.
“Juhi does a little cameo role in the film. She has done it exceptionally well and I am very happy with her,” he said.
Shahid Kapur, known for his chocolate boy looks, was Mirza’s choice to play the protagonist opposite Vidya Balan. But this pairing has come under much criticism.
But the seasoned director insists they make a good pair. “If they would not have paired well, why would have I cast them together?
“Shahid and Vidya look very nice in the film and that is the reason why I’ve cast them. I come from a socio-political background and I have made the film keeping my sensibilities in mind.
There were media reports about Vidya looking too “mature” for Shahid, but Mirza rubbishes them all.
“I don’t think she looks old. It’s the media image that has been created after her role in ‘Parineeta’ and probably that’s stuck on to her,” he said.
“Kismet Konnection”, which releases July 18, is the story of an architect running out of luck and how he meets a girl who becomes his lucky charm.
Mirza, who has earlier made movies like “Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman”, “Yes Boss”, “Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani” and “Chalte Chalte”, took a hiatus from the film industry after his wife’s death but returned last year to announce this venture.
“I have been out for a long time. It is my children who asked me to come back. I was working on some other scripts, but when my daughter shared the script of this film. I asked her to work on it,” Mirza said.
The director thinks the film is truly unusual and says it was made almost effortlessly.
“Somehow I feel that the film was destined to be made. From the time we got ourselves involved in it to the release, it is happening all on its own,” he said.

It just goes to show Yash Chopra needs Shah Rukh Khan for Hits.

I have respected you always because of the simplicity that you bring in your movies…but this is not nice to say SRK is too old for roles like kk…i think he didnt approve of the story thats why you are giving us stupid reasons…of course a 42 year old cant be compared with a 26 year old boy but SRK looks very good for his age, better than salman and amir…you cant expect SRK to look 25 year old all his life. And can you explain how vidya is tooo young for the role in kk??? unless its a story of an older lady and a younger boy thats fine but if you are trying to portray that vidya and shahid are both 26 years old…then let me tell you the truth that vidya is toooo old for kk..
MARYAM…….Actually srk had an association with this man long ago and they made some films also.But after chalte chalte srk understood that he is not capable of making things in a big way and he selected FARAH for further projects and d result is in front of u.Now Aziz has smelled that there’s gonna b no chance for him in future in redchillies,started all this nonsense.SRK can do KK type of movies as he is looking fresh and young.AMIR is doing IDIOTS in which he is playing a college boy and no body objects it and it looks funny when srk is not doing kk and he even doesn’t know about it, people are worried about it.Aziz is killing two birds with one stone here, one grapes are sour formulla and other he is promoting his film.It has become a fashion these days as when u want to promote your film in a big way,u have to rope in srk’s name into it by any means.

I agree with you all, SRK is SRK. Its just this jealous people or so called * friends * are after him as well as media. Well, media can be forgiven because they have to earn, and using SRK name, wow !!!! Media has earned hell of money, because they know as people see SRK name they won’t like to miss it. Such as one example our beloved KING KHAN is in London enjoying his holidays, and media is spreading the bad news about him that SRK refused to attend Amir Khan’s film premier. Now can anyone tell me how someone can attend the premier if that person is not in the country. But this is how they are getting too many hits on their web site. They all need SRK, and everyone is very well aware of his excellent personality and VALUE, but just to say something. If we closely observe the bollywood news anyone will realise that * BIG * actors or some people do need to misuse SRK name to draw the attention, so is Aziz Mirza doing. Shahid Kapoor looks so refreshing in Kismet Konnection. Reserve your tickets for this movie. You will enjoy this. Obviously it is going to be a big HIT. As far as SRK is concerned it is good that he doesn’t need to do this movie but most importantly he is a complete miss fit for this movie. Because he is getting older. There is no scope for him to romance at this age, especially which targets teen age fantasy and it makes sense not to do these romantic roles. If it is matured romance then it is another matter. And one thing I would like to say here particularly to you as an SRK fanatic, young bunch of people coming to the industry. I hope you must have seen if not go and watch the classic youth movie “JAANE TU .. YAA JAANE NAA”. It’s a master piece by Aamir Khan’s productions and it’s a great spectacle when the legendary Bachchan gave a warm hug to the fantabulous Aamir Khan at the premiere of this movie and they are coming together in a movie in future and what a Great news it is! And another piece of news I would like to share, the Bachchans signed a deal of 1500 crores with Anil Ambani. That means it is a marriage of master full business acumen of Anil ambani and the creative genius of the Bachchans. will create wonders for the movie goers. And Again what a great news it is!
Finally watch Kismet Konnection first day first show and see Jaane tu Yaa Jaane Naa, because Imran Khan is too cute.
And enjoy the song Aditi which is a craze now. So refreshing to see for the future and the younger lot.
So another Oveshadow film we will see where Bachchan’s will be no match for Khan’s. Already they are no match. This is great news that Bachchan’s are willing to be overshadowed by Khan’s.
Another great news is this Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is likely to set record totals for all revenues from Indian theatrical to Overseas theatrical to music to satellite. It is likely to be biggest grosser ever in India and Overseas so YRF are just going through a bad patch but with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi that patch will be over.

Guys, dont be so harsh on Aziz Mirza- this is the same guy who had faith in SRK when everyone else was calling SRK “ugly” “dark” “horrible hairstyle” but Aziz Mirza stuck with SRK becoz he felt that SRK was the right person for the film (and gave some of SRK’s memorable hits like RBGG, Yes Boss, CC etc).
Now, if he feels that Shahid Kapoor is the right person for KK, then i dont think anybody should question his decision since he was the one who established the lovely Khan into the industry (we all should be thanking him for having so much faith in SRK when everyone else didnt)

Jenna DO u think Aziz Mirza established srk in bollywood?If u think so then u r totally wrong.SRK caught the attention of all when he did DEEWANA in 1992.After that he was offered DARR by yashchopra,Baazigar by Abas Mastan,Raajev ban gaya gentleman by Aziz Mirza.Now about yesboss and chalte chalte,these came in later. stage of his carrier when he was an established star.SO it is clear that there is no hand of Mirza in establishing srk.If you have noticed, all above mentioned movies were no huge hits.One more thing, nobody is upset with A.Mirza on this issue but one thing i would like to ask you is that when SRK is not in this film neither he was approached for this and the role was written for SHAHID, what is the need to discuss srk’s age.Isn’t it nonsense?

No one has asked him, and suppose if he had been asked, he could have answered maintaining SHAH RUKH’s respect, in a very cheap way he has commented on SRK’s age. Mr AZIZ MIRZA, don’t forget you yourself are an old woman. And you are saying that Aziz Mirza had launched him, so, it means he has bought the royalty rights as well to say anything against SRK, while when he showed the script to JUHI CHAWLA, she straightaway said this one suits to SHAH RUKH KHAN. I think that this movie is not in the league of SRK. He can do much better than Aziz Mirza. Does Aziz Mirza not know that SRK can play ANY role in the world? He should know that age is just a stage of mind for SRK. SRK can do ANYTHING.

Aamir is not SRK.(he is ver cool and calculated and rightly so)SRK was great enough to agree to do movie with Bacchan(mohabbatein) which eventually resurrected the old mans career in the industry again.

Aziz Mirza mentioned about the “age factor” because the MEDIA had asked why he didnt cast SRK since SRK was in his previous movies. All the media wants to do is to create controversy between two people who respect each other (Aziz Mirza considers Juhi and SRK as his children and he is also the godfather for SRK’s children- that is how close he is to the family).
I cant understand why everyone is angry that Aziz Mirza said that SRK is too old to play the part- he didnt say he was a bad actor and didnt call SRK any names, so why the hostility?
As a director if he feels that the actor is not suited for that role at that particular time, then he shouldnt cast the actor. I read that he showed the script to Juhi and she herself said that the role in KK would have been perfect for SRK 10 years ago- now will you all go hating Juhi for saying that, too?

Sorry, Only for that I missed JUHI CHAWLA’s complete sentence, if she said so, then I was wrong to say that. sorry, but there is no question to hate JUHI CHAWLA, in fact I like and love her as much as SRK. Because JUHI CHAWLA is so far so good with SRK & family. But JENNA, as you have said about Aziz Mirza that he is SRK’s children’s Godfather, I have no idea about it. Because I thought that SRK called KARAN JOHAR his kid’s godfather before going for his neck surgery after or during CHALTE CHALTE film. But according to your information I think I was wrong only about a couple of things. Because I had always read that JUHI, AZIZ MIRZA & SHAH RUKH KHAN have teamed up a film company, I think Red Chillies Entertainment or Dreams Unlimited, can’t remember. Yes, it’s true that Juhi, SRK and Aziz Mirza started the producing company called “Dreams Unlimited” but since the movies produced by that company didnt become huge hits (except for Chalte Chalte) and added to the fact that Aziz lost his wife, he was no longer interested (i cant understand, losing a family member effects people), hence he told SRK to stop the company. So, SRK started “Red Chilles” after that
If you want to how close Aziz Mirza is to the SRK’s family, just see video “Inner and Outer World of SRK”, you will see Aziz Mirza interacting with SRK’s daughter (she looks exactly like her father)… Time and again, Aziz said that SRK and Juhi are like his children becoz they grew up infront of him.
Aziz is so much better than Yash Chopra (the Chopras only want to see SRK’s star status and they know they cant give a hit without SRK- which i think is so funny becoz i remember they announced in 2005-06 before the release of Fanaa and Dhoom2 that they wouldnt do any movies with SRK. I guess the audience prove to them in 2007 that they will support SRK since Chak De India was the only from the Yash Camp in 2007)

Jenna,I know Aziz Mirza is close to SRK’s family but family ties and business are two seperate things.It was SRK who broke ties with Mirza because he is not a director of that quality who can make huge hits.U see his films or either flops or small hits. SRK is at a level this time and people are expecting only blockbusters from him and even hits wouldn’t work.So it’ll b suicide for him to work with Mirza this time.Regarding Chopras, they are true friends of SRK and i don’t think they would have said that they are gonna make movies without SRK as they know who SRK is.
If SRK really broke ties with Aziz Mirza, then why did he agree to do the voice-over for Kismet Konnection (you dont think RBGG, Yes Boss, Chalte Chalte are quality hits??? atleast they have some story unlike the candyFloss crap that is coming out of the Yash Camp like D2, JBJ, TRRP, Tashan)
Chopra are SRK’s true friends? I dont think they are honest people (esp. after they lied to Yash Johar about the profit figures of KKHH. When Shah Rukh heard of this, he is said to have been shocked and livid. Everyone knows that Karan and Yash Johar, mean more than family to him. And he was upset that Yash Chopra, who claimed to be friends with Yash Johar, could resort to something like this and that’s why they fought during Mohabatein- i am sure everyone knows about the big fight in 2001… I guess now everything is sorted out or like SOMEONE ELSE said before- SRK still works with them out of a sense of loyalty to the camp who had “made” his career)

Yash Chopra are the Dishonset lot.
They are no where and were in the verge of bankruptcy before SRK saved their asses with Darr and then DDLJ and DTPH.Once they tatsted success,they ditched SRK.
Even IN CDI he was not the original choice.SRK was considered only after saif refused to do the role.(Good for us)
Only after the YRF is in financial mess again ,they have resorted to taking SRK again in RNBNJ.
Yash Chopra are a non entity without SRK.

JENNA/RAJEEV…..Here i totally disagree with you.Both of u know better than me that media sells controversies and here is the same case.Trust me there has never been any kind of problem between srk and chopras but all was cooked by media.Srk has many times said that he has never read the scripts of karan and chopras coz he knows that it’ll be the best written for him.Have you forgotten that it was Adi and Yashji who signed Srk in DDLJ and that was a main turning point for his career.Yes i agree with you that he was not the first choice for CDI but you might have noticed that chopras cast srk only in those films which are either directed by Adi or Yashji.Since CDI was not being directed by any of them so how could have he been the first choice?Actually they write good scripts for Srk e.g DDLJ,DTPH,Mohobatein,VZ.It was Adi who gave Srk such a powerful role in Mohobatein and the result was that he overshadowed Big b in that.I

here’s an interesting piece of news when Saathiya was being remade from the Tamil movie “Alai Payuthey “, SRK went to Aditya becoz he loved the Tamil movie but Aditya turned him doing saying that role is meant for a YOUNGER PERSON (SRK was not even in his 40S at that time).
Then SRK wanted to Bunty aur Babli but Adi turned him down again sayin the movie has to connect to a younger audience and so he is not right for the part!!! Now if everyone is criticizing Aziz Mirza for mentioning the “age factor”, why isnt anyone blasting Aditya Chopra for saying the same thing but indirectly??? This is why I appreciate Aziz Mirza- atleast he didnt beat around the bush unlike the Chopras
Another reason why I respect Aziz Mirza more is becoz he said that “Nobody can be fooled by just glossy and glitzy movies. Films are made by stories and not by stars” while the Chopras said that “you have to treat Indian audiences like children…presumably give them candyfloss and they’ll be happy”- this now shows in their movies (i hope they have changed their opinion seeing the box-office fate of all their movies)
Jeena………..Where from u have heard this?It is totally wrong.As for as SAATHIYA is concerned,Mani Ratnam and Bobby Bedi were its main producers and YRF shared only 20% profit and their main job was to distribute the film in North India.So who was Adi to select or reject SRK in this film.Now regarding Bunty aur Babli,it was written for Bachans from day one and there was no question of SRK in this film.And one more thing i want to make you clear that nobody in the industry will say no to SRK,if he wants to do a film with him.You must have heard that Adi was not in speaking terms with his father after that Rani episode and on the other hand he was keen to make RNBDJ as a director but was unable to get approval of Yashchopra.SO he finally requested SRK to intervene into the matter.Hence SRK talked to YASH JI and on is recommedation he allowed Adi to direct the film.So letus see that how much respect SRK is getting from Chopras.
Mani Ratnam said that when the Saathiya was being remade, he had SRK in mind (romantic impulse lover who wouldnt take no for an answer- clear “SRK” image) and SRK was willing to do it but Aditya said no, saying he wanted Abishek Bachchan to do it (but he rejected it, so Vivek Oberoi took over). It was the same for Bunty aur Babli (SRK esp more than ever loved the title of the movie also- how cute)
People who said no- Mani Ratnam for Yuva (SRK wanted to do Ajay’s role) but Mani Ratnam said no, becoz he didnt have a role which suited SRK’s image, RGV (he scraped Time Manchine and decided to do Sarkar)for the same reason Ratnam gave and ADi for Saathiya and BaB…. SRK wasnt in talking terms with Yash Chopra in 2000, later, they made amends (but i guess Adi didnt forgive SRK since he didnt give those roles to him)
Instead of SRK depending on Chopras, the Chopras have to depend on SRK
Whenever any director has a good script in hand,SRK is his first choice e.g Lagaan,Nayak,Munna bhai M.B.B.S,ROBOT,IDIOTS etc etc but things couldn’t patch up and films went to other actors.Does this mean that the directors of above mentioned films are enemies of SRK?Come on Jenna such things should be taken lightly and shouldn’t be given more weightage.

Shah Rukh Khan liked the Script of Bunty Aur Babli and told Aditya Chopra that I wanted to do this film, but Aditya Chopra told him that this film is not according to his status. He didn’t said anything regarding age.
Aditya mentioned the age factor as to why SRK couldnt get those movies. Even for RNBDJ he mentioned that the story involves a 40 yr old man in love with a 19 yr old (now why does he have to mention that- love knows no barriers- be it age, religion or caste). So, why isnt anybody shouting at Aditya for indirectly calling SRK old?

So what we should do Boycott Yash Raj Movies?
Unless they change their attitude (and hopefully they will after giving flops movies in a row like the ever so hyped TrASHAN, TRRP, LCMD). They never focus on the story, they always focus on the star- so, it’s always stars but no substance (the only exception is CDI)
Now mostly all Yash Raj movies have “beautiful body but no soul”- hopefully it will change with RNBDJ
Mustafa…….This is what i have said in one of my posts that chopras sign srk in those films only which are either directed by Aditiya Chopra or Yash Chopra and have a solid script.Since 1993 why they haven’t directed any other actor instead of srk in lead role?I have heard srk many times saying that johars and chopras are like family for him and even Yash chopra said many times that srk is his closest friend as well as like his son.I know if srk will ask them for a role in their film and if they feel the script is not to his standard,they’ll refuse him straight way because they understand his standard and above all they love him.
