Fenil’s Bollywood Talk # 3

Every Thursday, your very own movie-buff MSian Fenil will talk everything about Bollywood (latest releases, controversies, cold wars between stars etc) and my opinions on the goings-on in the Hindi Film Industry!
This Week’s Topic:
WHEN I MET AAMIR AND IMRAN KHAN!!
2 days back, on July 1, 2008; I got to a chance to be present in the chat show of CNN-IBN news channel where Aamir Khan and Imran Khan had come as guest celebrities! Throughout the show, both of them kept pulling each others legs! But the show was quite enjoyable! During the breaks, Aamir used to interact with the audience. Seeing that the audience is full of students, he used to ask us questions about studies! A lot of IITians were present and Aamir started asking them about the formulae and all that stuff. Later he switched to history. I even answered one of his questions but unfortunately, my answer was wrong! The audience asked questions to both while in the end, some were selected to dance with them on the song “Pappu Can’t Dance Saala” (CHECK THE PIC). Unfortunately, I didn’t got the chance to do either of the two. But luckily, after the show ended, I got a chance to shake hands with both of them and I also wished them luck for their forthcoming movies. Aamir very politely and nicely said a ‘Thank You’ to me while Imran was not able to do the same since he was surrounded by lot of girls!
This show will be telecasted on CNN-IBN today (July 3, 2008) at 8:30 pm and at 11:30 IST and tomorrow (July 4, 2008) at 2:30 pm IST. Don’t Miss It!

2008-MOST DISSAPPOITING YEAR
The first half of 2008 has ended and it was disastrous! Most of the movies released were flops. Even the comic flicks, which are the flavour of the season, failed to make a mark. None of the movie managed to become a blockbuster while 3 movies were super-hits-Jodhaa Akbar, Race and Jannat. This is surely one of the most disappointing years of Bollywood. But better times maybe ahead since a lot of biggies are gonna release (Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na, Kismat Konnection, Mission Istaanbul, Singh Iss Kinng, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Rock On, Ghajini, Drona, Kidnap, Chadni Chowk To China, Roadside Romeo, Golmaal Returns, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi to name a few). And many of them and maybe all of them are expected to fetch a lot of profit for its filmmakers.

THE FIRST BIG CLASH OF 2008!
Tomorrow, two biggies-Love Story 2050 and Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na are also set to release. It’s not the first time that two big movies are releasing simultaneously in this year. Earlier in April, U Me Aur Hum and Krazzy4 released together but this time, both the movies are bigger and so are the expectations. Love Story 2050 managed to create hype since it has depicted about the future. While Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na has managed to create a bigger hype because of Imran Khan (who has become the new heartthrob of the nation) and also because of its cool songs (Kabhi Kabhi Aditi and Pappu Cant Dance). Love Story 2050 is surely at a disadvantage since its budget is quite high (Rs. 60 crore) while Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na is made at a modest budget (Rs. 10 crore). I am not going to miss any of these movies but I’ll be watching Love Story 2050 first!
Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na is the 3rd film of Aamir Khan Productions. The other two movies of this production house (Lagaan and Taare Zameen Par) were also released simultaneously with a biggie-Gadar and Welcome respectively. And both of these movies became blockbusters while Lagaan and Taare Zameen Par got immense critical acclaim from critics and audiences but didn’t manage to become a blockbuster. But this time it would be vice versa! Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na, it seems, would do a better business than Love Story 2050! But this is Bollywood and here everything is unpredictable. So nothing can be said for sure!
