Black & White talks about more colors than black and white. We always find it easy to comment on something without giving a thought towards it. It’s just the way we are, and it’s just the way we always have been. I got the chance to watch this movie and I feel more patriotic than ever before. It talks about religion, cast, color, human, love, hate, fear, anger and most importantly it talks about “India”. I must say after Manoj Kumar’s “Shaheed” and Rajkumar Santoshi “Legend of Bhagat Singh”, it can be rated at number three position. It deserves all the appreciation because of the subject on which it has been made or a message it’s been delivering for the people.

The Plot
The movie revolves around Rajan Mathur, an Urdu professor in Zakir Hussain College. He is living in Chandni Chowk with his wife and daughter. Roma is a social worker who has a solution for every problem. She’s an extrovert who loves to take part in all social activities and defends those who are in trouble and seeking help. They are having one beautiful daughter as surbhi( She can hear but cannot speak). They are living happily in their small world. Numair Qazi is a terrorist who comes to India from Afghanistan with a mission of taking lives of hundreds of people on 15 august. He came to Delhi as a victim of riots in Gujarat and searching a job for making his livelihood. He meets Rajan Mathur and asks for his help for getting the job in Delhi itself. Roma doesn’t like him at all as he is having a very mischievous personality. He doesn’t talk to anyone, remains aloof, thinks in a fanatic way and doesn’t like those who are the non-believers of Islamic religion. He makes one plan in which he ends up in wining the trust of Roma. He starts living with their family and they are his real care takers. The next thing which comes as an obstacle in his way is how to get the pass for entering into red fort. He gets that on the request of Roma as she a big social worker and has contacts with high command people. By one mistake, she got killed by numair’s friends and rajan’s finds himself weak and rebuke. On 15 august, they both entered into red fort but at the moment when numair had to explode a bomb, he changed his mind and ran away towards mehrauli. The police chased him & he became successful in absconding. Rajan mathur saves his life as he doesn’t believe that in police considering numai’s a terrorist. Later on, Rajan mathur gets arrested by the police and his case was on the way in the highcourt.

Performances
Anil Kapoor- He has done a brilliant job. If one person is getting changed just by seeing and hearing what other wants to convey is something like achieving big in life. That person can be considered as an idealistic just like Prof Rajan of B&W. AK, no doubt, is a superb actor and he has the power and ability to act for any role. He has given the best performance in this movie. He truly deserves an award for it.
Sheefali Shah- Oops, she was more busy in fighting for other people rights rather than her own:P. She has done a mind blowing job. She has always impressed me by her new roles i.e. a role of mother in “Waqt”, A wife in “15 Park Avenue” or a social orator and fighter in “B&W”.
Anurag Sinha- He’s a new comer but I can bet, if he’ll be getting projects like B&W, he can compete with actors like Shahrukh, Salman and Saif for sure. He was superb, stunning and impressive. He was delivering dialogues just by eyes; he didn’t feel like uttering words. He was excellent and for this movie, he truly deserves an award. His voice was his strength and eyes were attractive. He was looking damn kool and I am just flattered on his acting skills and personality.
My View
B&W talks about the journey of Mohammad Akbal of afghanistan to Numair Qazi of Delhi. They were like one man, with two different identities but working for the same purpose. A patriotic person like RM changed his way of thinking. I must say people do learn from others. It’s not always necessary that by sharing our problems with others, we can get the best solution for it. Numair was so quiet and stunned, but he got motivated by RM’s family, thoughts & their love for motherland. At the end when he wrote a mail to police in which he specifies “Maine Rajan Mathur ki nazaron se hindustan ko dekha hai, Is main sirf kaale aur safed rang hi nahin, balki aur rang bhi hai”. This scene was simply superb. After Kisna , subhash ghai has delivered something very provoking and meaningful. One must not miss it, if one loves patriotic movies, then go ahead. It simply rocks.

Excellent review Sweety. I don’t know why the media hated this. I think it was very well made and good effort from Ghai. I liked this one. Everyone should watch this film.
BLACK & WHITE is a good movie made by showman Subhash Ghai. Anurag Sinha deserves the best actor in a negative role(male)and best debut male award in all the award functions next year.Anil Kapoor is fantastic.Shefali Shah is good but there is a problem that her role is short in the 2nd half.Aditi Sharma who resides in the same city where I live-Lucknow doesn’t get enough scope in the film.Habib Tanwar is good.Milind Gunanji is ok.All the other actors have done a good job.The music is average but the best track is ‘Main Chala’.The whole crew has done a good job.
The story:-
In Afghanistan a photographer tries to click photos of terrorists but is shot dead by Numair Qazi(Anurag Sinha).Numair is assigned by a Muslim Fundamentalist group to become a suicide bomber and do a bomb blast near Red Fort,New Delhi on 15th August i.e.Independence Day due to which several Indians will die bcoz for the Muslim fundamentalist group Indians are against Islam.Numair starts staying in Gauffar’s(Habib Tanwar)house in Chandni Chowk where Numair introduces himself as a victim of Gujarat communial riots in which his parents were killed.Numair meets Shagufta(Aditi Sharma)who falls in love at first sight with him unknowing his reality.During a discussion on an article published in newspaper about terrorists Numair comes across Rajan Mathur(Anil Kapoor)who is an Urdu professor in Zakir Hussain college who tells him something about Quran.Rajan lives in Chandni Chowk with his social worker wife Roma Mathur Sengupta(Shefali Shah).Due to a suspicion of terrorist attack on Red Fort on 15th August i.e.Independence Day many youngster living in Chandni Chowk are arrested including Numair but Numair is released on the request of Rajan.Roma has a doubt about Numair.Rajan always advices Numair to become a happy and smiling person from a serious looking person.One day during a visit to Qutub Minar where Roma’s so-called brother Rahat is performing and some terrorists attack.A stampede is followed where Rajan and Roma’s daughter gets lost but is saved by Numair.Numair starts staying in Rajan and Roma’s house.Numair is given a tie and watch as a gift by Roma.The CBI officers raid the minister’s house who is the mastermind behind the bomb blast so to escape arrest minister commits suicide by shooting himself dead.Rajan and Rahat give the good news to Gauffar that an album based on Gauffar’s poems will be released shortly with the help of news reporters.Numair discusses a plan with his colleagues including Milind Gunanji which Gauffar hears and Gauffar dies of shock.Numair gets a VIP pass for the 15th August i.e.Independence Day celebrations with the help of Rajan and Roma.During a discussion between a Hindu and Muslim party leader Rajan said that before killing some innocent person think about your children.U won’t be able to kill anybody.On 14th August Numair attends a party along with Rajan.Numair tells Shagufta to leave the thought that they’ll ever get married bcoz after Numair completes his mission he may go to heaven i.e.he’ll die.Numair’s colleagues call him up and ask him to give the diary which contains all the contacts.Numair tell them that it is in his blue jacket and to take it from Roma.The colleagues meet Roma and request her to give the jacket by telling a lie that food has fallen on his clothes so he needs the blue jacket.After seeing the tension on their faces Roma tries to snatch the jacket from the colleagues and the colleagues try to get it back.After sometime one of the colleagues shoot Roma and Roma dies on the spot.Rajan leaves the party saying that his daughter’s health condition is not good.When Numair reaches home he sees Rajan crying and Roma lying dead on the floor.Rajan tries to make his daughter bcoz then the people will think that some Muslim has killed Roma so a riot will be followed between Muslims and Hindus in which many innocent people will die.Rajan does the final rites of Roma in an isolated place only after telling Rahat.Rajan and Numair enter the VIP area.Rajan remembers a thing that Roma requested that if Roma won’t go then only can Rajan and Numair can go which really happened due to the death of Roma.The CBI officers get the information that the suicide bomber i.e.Numair is sitting in the VIP area.They kill the terrorists in their main location.The police reach the VIP area and Numair starts running and the police chase him.Rajan comes to know about the truth of Numair.When police is about to kill Numair Rajan comes in between and saves Numair.Numair kills Milind Gunanji and the evil Numair in him.Rajan is arrested.The Chandni Chowk people still trust Rajan.Shagufta questions Rajan and asks him why did Rajan save Numair even though he had an intention to kill several Indians.Rajan tells that Numair came to New Delhi with a bad intention but returned back with a good intention.Rajan also tells that by doing the bomb blast he wanted to give a message given to him by the Afghan terrorists to the Indians but now he’ll carry a message given to him by the Indians to the Afghan terrorists.Rajan is put to jail.30 days later Rahat gives the print-out of an e-mail sent to him by Numair which contains that through the eyes of Rajan Numair saw the true India where no discrimination was made on the basis of caste,colour,creed or religion.Numair also told that if he did the bomb blast and took the life of several Indians along with him then God wouldn’t have forgiven him.At the end the girl is shown drawing the picture of a bird with the same pattern of colours which are put according to the Indian flag and a book based on Gauffar’s poems kept beside it.
The movie gives us a message-’We need to kill terrorism and not terrorists’.A very good attempt by showman Subhash Ghai.I give it *****=5 stars.
