Jodhaa Akbar:Rs 7.4 cr a day worldwide(Record for indian movie)

Jodhaa Akbar - 7.4 crores a day
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, February 26, 2008]

Grosses Rs 74 crores (approx 19 million USD) in just 10 days worldwide…a record for a Indian film!

Some key figures of the gross collections:

• India: Rs. 52.70 crores (one of the biggest openings ever in Indian cinema)

• US: USD 2.5 million = Rs. 10 crores (already one of the highest grossers of all time in the US market in just 10 days!)

• UK: GBP 700,000 = Rs. 5.60 crores (amongst the Top 10 first 10 days for an Indian film in the UK market)

• Gulf: USD 800,000 = Rs. 3.2 crores (amongst the Top 5 first 10 days for an Indian film in the Gulf)

• Australia: USD 286,906 = Rs. 1.15 crores (already tracking to emerge as the 2nd highest grosser of all time in Australia)

• Rest of the World = USD 380,000 = Rs, 1.5 crores

General:

The Telugu and Tamil versions will release on 6th March and are expected to create a huge stir in the South market.

The film has generated spectacular box office collections despite:

1. Not having a release in one of the key markets for this genre of movie - Rajasthan. UTV Motion Pictures is still in talks with various local groups to try and get the film released in the state, as interest levels amongst audiences are at fever pitch.

2. Suspension of screenings in the state of Madhya Pradesh over the 2nd weekend by the State Government. UTV has moved the MP High Court already to lift this suspension and has announced that it will go up to the Supreme Court if need be.

  1. i dont know what this article is talking about.Had it colcted this much then this would have been fightimng with OSO for the top grosser slot.Instead the trade is fighting if the movie is a hit or a semi hit or an avg fare.

I find this article completely fabricated.

  2. Rajeev: all we have to do is wait for 2-3 more weeks and we’ll know.

JA is one of the luckiest movies of recent times as faced no competition of any sort at the BO when it was released and has been getting clean run till date. If it had to compete against an OSO, JA’s collections would’ve made even SaaBOREiya’s collections look bigger…. No wonder Ashutosh kept postponing JA’s release!!

  3. Wishful thinking Varun (not to mention malicious propoganda)!
You’re the very guys who go by box-office records. Now that the box-office has turned on you, you’re ridiculing your very own benchmark!!! C’mon… you gotta stand for something!

Listen to this: JA because of it’s length is running only 3 shows daily at most non-multiplex theatres as opposed to the 4 shows that other films run with. (This is precisely the reason why Lagaan’s total collections were smaller than Gadar’s; both were released at the same time.)
JA hasn’t been released in Rajasthan & is now off parts of MP too. Despite all this, it ended up only 2 Cr. short of your recent favourite. If it was a shorter film, & had it been shoing all over India, you can imagine how the joke would’ve suddenly been on you! Read here for details:

  4. Of oourse, we still stick to BO and acting as benchmarks. that is why i said “all we have to do is wait for 2-3 more weeks and we’ll know.”….

And pls don’t copy-paste the same content from other posts…

No one gives a damn about the length of JA or it’s ban while doing the BO math as it was all done voluntarily by JA team, whether it was the 3 hr 20 mts of run or the controversial take on the saga.

  5. Guys, according to BOI (the most reliable source), JA collects 55 cr gross approx. (35 cr nett) in the domestic market and 21.25 cr gross in overseas market in the first 10 days. So the total 10 days gross worldwide for JA is 76.25 cr according to BOI. So the claim by Joginder is very true. But to claim that it’s a record for any Indian movie is totally false because 10 days gross of OSO and D:2 was much higher than JA’s. As we all know that OSO first week (7 days) gross was 65 cr approx. (40 cr nett) and first 10 days gross of OSO in overseas was 28 cr according to BOI. And this has become 93 cr still i did’nt include 3 days gross of the 2nd weekend in Domestic market which i did’nt know exactly. Same is the case of D:2.

  6. i agree with mate.

Thats what i meant to say.Joginder was trying to fabricate the facts.
His figures are right but his claims are wrong.

  7. Varun…

I can only pity your offering a defence for your previous comment. It really is laughable how you’re defending your stand at all costs! Now you’re trying to side-step the BO collections claim. Wait 3 weeks, wait all you want. What’s done has been done.

And please don’t tell me what to do with respect to my comments.

  8. Varun… 1 last question before I go… How old are you?

  9. hey u all

  11. Grossing 19 million dollars in 10 days is NOT a record. These people are misinforming you. Om Shanti Om grossed 19 million in its first week, explain that Joginder
