JODHA AKBAR disappointing movie

Movie Review by Far

JODHA AKBAR disappointing movie. gr8 direction by ASHUTOSH, also art direction and technically movie is excellent, but wat it lacks is properly written story and screenplay.

also that romance scene of hrithik-ash in 2nd half was stretched to no end, though it was directed well. editing is poor. many scenes were unwanted. especially the one where he is handling that wild elephant. i am still not getting how he actually obtained control over it.

HRITHIK-ASH are gr8, and excellent chemistry. but most of the times u dont understand the conversations going on between AKBAR and the other moghal kings, due to high urdu. and the last fight scene between AKBAR and his brother in law was very well directed.

the khwaja song picturisation is gud, but again that too has been extended for long time. the actions of the m,en singing that song make u laugh after some time, actually only i understood the essesnce of the song, it was used to describe us the character of EMPERORO JALLALUDIN. BUT again heavy use of urdu lyrics take our attention away from the song and the awkward behaviour of the singers grasp our attention.

also JODHA’S character is poorly sketched. even though akbar allows her to follow her religion and traditions in his palace, even while greeting someone she follows the hindu way and never says “aadab”. it gets irritating after a point.

AZEEM-O-SHAHENSHAH song is briiliantly pisturised and especially the background drum beats make the lively and those 15-20 mins are a treat to watch. there are quite few more memorable scenes in the movie.

but this is the problem we always experience with historicals. why do directors tend to give less importance on script and more on the grandeur, cinematography etc.

HRITHIK deserves a pat on the back for living the character of AKBAR so brilliant. flawlless performance. SONU SOOD and other supporting cast are gud.

i will discuss more flaws in the movie in detail later.

rating(for now): 2.5/5(disappointing).

  1. If Jodha-Akbar is made just for entertainment value, it’s ok. But I don’t think it’s made for entertainment value. Asuthosh wanted to show his directorial capability and tried to convince the audience about the love story between Jodha and Akbar? But educated audience must know the history and must be laughing the way Akbar’s kingdom is shown in the movie against the romantic background?

Many times, the role of Jodha was forcibly inserted to justify the title ‘Jodha Akbar. One such occasion I would like to site when Akbar got wounded with an arrow. Jodha would be taking care of him. What about his other wives and Baandies (concubines)?

The focus of the movie evolves more around Jodha-Akbar to justify the title of the movie with very little is shown about his mother, midwife, and other counselors.

One thing I have observed is that nothing is shown about Akabr’s Muslim wives? No interaction of Jodha with Akbar’s wives? The reason for not showing Akbar’s previous wives can be well understood and it rather shows the dexterity of script writer and director. Well done Asutosh for presenting the historic facts in a bad light! You wanted business, and you would succeed too as the collection at box office is whopping week by week.

Film impacts our lives and gives a message. What kind of message we’ll give to our posterity with this distorted factual periodic movie? Should not our generation visualize Akbar as Hirtik and Jodha as Aishwarya in same as we visualize Akab as Prithivi Raj Kapoor and Salim as Dilip Kumar? Would not the generation ahead to us believe what they see in the movie than believing on real history of Akbar in Mughal period?

I don’t object on any good historic films. Richard Attenborough has also made a film on Gandhi; this was convincing and has won various awards too. It was purely a historic movie and I really appreciate this movie. But when it comes to Indian directors in making such a movie, most of them have failed so far. Almost all of them do think from commercial perspective whether a film they make will do business or not. If not, then who will produce if next time he dares making sumac a movie?

In gist, if a periodic film is made with distorted facts to do business, time is not far away when our posterity would believe such a film as real and would discard what’s written in the history book. Future really looks bloom, alas!

  4. joddha akbar is a very beautiful movie. like azhar said, one needs to watch it with heart rather than having a thousand doubts about history or trying find explainations in their minds… such people absolutely miss the lovely moments which can only be observed when watched from the heart. …..artistic people can easily grasp its grandeur in expressing beauty of subtle romance.

    @Munaz Anjum
dear buddy.. do u hv any interest in painting? if u do.. if I ask u to make a portrait of a city like ur hometown .. wht exactly will u try to draw.. ofcourse the place u feel most close to ur heart .. no way.. u can paint evry small- large detail of ur city.. if u try to do.. u will spoil it only.. thts wht the movie making is.. U must focus on ur subject.. to get the best portrayal, no way u can cover everything. The movie was not a history lesson .. its was just a portrait made by some fine artists.. it was a saga … presented by.. Ashutosh .. awesome storyteller ..

  8. hey…d son Khwaja mere Khwaja is not sung in praise of Emperor Jallauddin..it is in praise of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti..u need to check ur facts….n thn write smthing

  9. It is infact a good move by the producer and the industry to take such an initiative to show the greatest historical moments of india. Although the characters could’nt justify themselves as historical icons in some sequences, but overall the movie is broadly presented in a unique blend. Not disappointing at all.
