Trivia from BOMBAY TO BANGKOK
By Glamsham.com

1. Bangkok being a heart of Thailand, Language barrier was inevitable. The unit carried their translator throughout shooting. Even though being a fan of Thai cuisine, the entire team got bored with the same kind of food everyday. To resolve this issue, an Indian cook was appointed to make Indian food for everyone.
2. One of the funny incidents was, when team wanted to order some chips for their breakfast, due to communication barrier the entire team went berserk explaining to the waitress, ‘what chips are’. After a long session of explaining through different gestures, the waitress, assuring everyone that she understood what everyone wanted, went in to the kitchen and brought a ‘huge kitchen knife’!
3. Nagesh Kukunoor, being a perfectionist, didn’t allow anyone to move away from the sets. Thai crew was very afraid of him, was not allowed to get away from location, they usually slept under a truck on a sheet of thermocol, so that NK couldn’t see them.
4. Shreyas Talpade had to kiss onscreen in front of his wife; as any husband in this situation would react, Shreyas was no exception. He was very uncomfortable to do the needful in front of his better half. There is a very important intimate scene between him and actress Lena, where he had to kiss her. It took a long time for director Nagesh Kukunoor to convince him for the scene. Apparently Lena was comfortable and was helping Shreyas to overcome his nervousness. Bashfully Shreyas took number of takes to complete the scene, which turned out to be wonderful.
5. As the massage parlours work from morning, the entire place was available for shooting only after 7 o’clock in the evening, so all massage parlour sequences have been shot throughout the night. The entire unit was seen eating lots of chocolates to keep themselves awake for round the clock shoot. Shreyas used to sleep between the shots.
6. In Bangkok, each house has its own Spirit (Godly), and it’s a belief that the spirit takes care of every member of the house. The shoot was carrying on in one of the houses; it was scheduled for 4 days, after 3rd day, the owner of the house refused to let the crew in… after a long discussion he reveled that his house spirit was hurt because of the units’ behavior. Apparently it was a child’s spirit and all his toys (car, bus, dolls) were scattered by the unit as it was coming in the frame. Nagesh took the initiative and apologized to the owner and to the spirit, and then the shooting resumed; it was a perfect example of multicultural encounter.
7. Shreyas ate cockroaches, silk warm, and grasshopper for one scene.
8. Thai is a very phonetic language. At one particular incident in the movie Manmeet Singh’s character had to speak some dialogs in Thai, after a long learning session with the translator, the actor got some hold on the language, started his dialog but the actor while reciting those dialogs couldn’t manage to get the phonetics right and he changed the complete meaning of the phrase and ended saying “I want more rice’!
9. Nagesh has tried different things with B2B. This movie contains a dance number, ’same same but different’ choreographed by Toby. This is for the first time Nagesh has introduced a full fledged lip sync song in his movie. The song is very catchy and entire crew including Thai dancers had ball of a time filming it. Ironically this song is written by Hussain, who has given us songs like, ‘Yeh Honsla’ from DOR in the past.
10. This is Sreyas’s third movie with Nagesh and it’s a pattern that the actor has got tanned in all of his movies. It began with critically acclaimed IQBAL where the actor played a protagonist trying to make his mark in cricketing world. DOR was their second venture together shot in deserts of Rajasthan. Third time was not a charm for Shreyas as again he got tanned while filming BOMBAY TO BANGKOK.
11. Nagesh Kukunoor turned 40 this year. The entire unit of BOMBAY TO BANGKOK celebrated this talented director’s birthday in Bangkok. The venue was filled with bright lighting, cake and barbeque aroma. A small stage was build for the occasion, the night was in its full swing, when actor Vijay More decided to dedicate a special performance to Nagesh started dancing on the floor and next minute he was under the dance floor! Apparently in his zest poor guy didn’t even notice that he broke the dance floor. Another surprise for the night was Thai actress Lena who is also a singer presented a nice Thai song on karaoke. Again inspired by her gesture our desi boy Sreyas converted her entire Thai song and sung it in Hindi!
12. One fine day, after completing day’s shoot, the crew returned to their resort. When Nagesh went in his room everything was normal, but after he closed his room’s door, everything went berserk. Nagesh spotted a long Gecko (Lizard found in warm climates) in his room, scared Nagesh called people in the room to rescue him, Shreyas went in with intention to help him, little he knew, flew miles away from the creature. Now both Nagesh and Shreyas were frantically calling people, and again faced a huge problem because of language. Finally help came in form of hotel attendants. They successfully managed to remove the gecko from Nagesh’s room, letting him and Shreyas breathe free!
13. Thai cops who are used in the movie are real cops. After finishing their regular duties the cops used to come to the sets.
14. Shreyas has worked out for one particular scene in the movie where he had to be bare chest. As it turned out Lena is an aerobics instructor, helped Shreyas prepared for the scene. Looks like Shreyas is moving towards the direction set by his counterpart Shah Rukh Khan in OSO
15. First time ever in an Indian movie has been shot at an airport tarmac. For a very important sequence, Nagesh took permission from airport authority to shoot, however there was little confusion on airport authority’s part. They granted a permission to shoot at terrace. Due to total confusion, NK was able to take 30 People and a crane inside tarmac area.
