Box Office Mozo: Saawariya No 1 for weekend in overseas
November 13th, 2007 • Related • Filed Under
As per Site collection for weekend november 9-11 in overseas for saawariya is over 15 million dollars??
i.e more than 60 cr??
I wonder then why SLB is crying .This amount can make saawariya Hit in just 3 days.He should infect dance.
Why media saying saawariya is flop.Is not it a Hit already.
(particlualry when hindi electonic media is too ready to sell 95 cr first week for OSO) then why lebel Saawariya a flop.
Its three days earning is more than even biggest hit of last year D2 first week total.

well guys you can really see the way media is behaving these days.If the movies has been that great then sajay would not have been crying and SRK not running from one show to another ,even a very low TRP ranking show on Sahara.150 cr in 3 days for two movies.itni tau capcity bhi nahin hogi and infact such amount they will not even earn in full run leave aside three days

Rude Rash, It’s OSO that’s no.1 overseas not Saawariya. How far will you go to manipulate?? If you’ve not manipulated the facts here, can you name the site that claims Saawariya to be no.1 overseas?
Comment by Varun on 13 November 2007:
I also think the figures are exaggerated. I know some sites are speaking of OSO making around 95 crores in the first four days of release from India alone. That’s astoundingly high…. Let’s wait for the movie to complete a week and then we’ll know what the actual figures are….. In case the figures are true, OSO will set a new benchmark for the movie industry……
And just see what mileage Saawariya has got due to OSO!! It is claimed that Saawariya has grossed 60 crores in the first 4 days. A movie that has been receiving so much flak has managed to gross 60 crores in 4 days?? If it’s true, Bhansali should fall at SRK’s feet for his movie has survived or thrived ONLY due to OSO. Saawariya came into such limelight ONLY because it was pitted against OSO. Clever but subtle marketing by Sony Pictures for Saawariya…….
Comment by Kunal on 13 November 2007:
Actually Varun both producers should thank each other as if hadn’t been this kinda competition there wouldn’t have been such hype and promotion.
Anyhow these are stupid figures…..
95 carores to OSO and 60 carores to Saawariya…. its stupid… .Hollywood movies have a togh time raking in so much of money… but then its overall amount… that is overseas + domestic…
as far as profits for producers is concerned… its like 60% to the multiplex owners and 40% to producers therefore Sony has already got 24 cr but they had a budget of 10 cr for promotions considering this they have expenses of 40 cr… so just 16 more to go… and then I forgot about crand endorsements and all….
I guess Bhansali is not pissed off because of collections he is fuming because of his ego.
I read at NG.com that OSO and Saawariya never really had competition… after all how can a bunch of newcomers take on probably the most bankable star of the world (considering Tom failed miserably with his lions) it was more of a figment of media’s creation… they pitted it as the fight of equals which never was….
Then there was ego of Bhansali, which took a beating thats why he is boiling hot

Bullshit. Saawariya had made only $542 K in Nove 9-11 weekend.
Log into http://www.boxofficemojo.com to check the fact.
ruderesh should show his eyes to the opthalmologist.

The diwali battle of the biggies has turned out to be a one horse race with Om Shanti Om emerging a clear winner. On Monday the collections of Saawariya had fallen to the 35-50% mark while Om Shanti Om was rock steady at 80-90% which is extraordinary for Monday in the multiplex era.
Our source at Eros says “Om Shanti Om is the fastest money spinner ever and in time will emerge the highest grossing film in Indian film history. It has taken the domestic boxoffice to another level. In India our film has done nett business of over 25 crore in 4 days and we expect it to touch the business of our 2007 blockbuster Partner within two weeks. Wherever we have sold the film it has fetched record prices and these prices will be recovered in one week flat. We expected the film to do very well but the collections till date are way above expectations especially if we take into account the competition”.
The story is different for Saawariya, after three good days the collections fell apart from Monday. But due to healthy weekend there is still chance of recovery as long as the multiplexes do not drop the screens showing it heavily in its second week.
Comment by rajeev on 14 November 2007:
Last week saw the release of two much hyped movies of the year - Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya.
One was director Farah Khan’s second film starring Shah Rukh Khan and model turned actress Deepika Padukone and the other was Bhansali’s fifth film with debutants Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor.
Now the wait is over and the results are out! On Friday, both movies started on a slightly low note at select places (like North India), considering that it was Diwali. On Saturday both movies ran houseful but word of mouth publicity worked in Om Shanti Om’s favour. Eventually, Om Shanti Om proved its power at the box office. Saawariya on the other hand has not succeeded in putting up a great show.
On Monday, Om Shanti Om ran with 80 per cent occupancy at a few multiplexes and as high as 95 – 100 per cent in others. On the other hand, Saawariya saw a drastic drop with as little as 20 per cent occupancy in some multiplexes and 40 per cent at some others.
“Saawariya was houseful on Saturday but dropped by 10 -15 per cent on Sunday itself, which was highly unexpected considering that Sunday is a movie day and any movie manages to do well on that day,” says a programming head of a multiplex chain on condition of anonymity.
At most multiplexes both movies are running with equal shows. But at some, Saawariya has more shows than Om Shanti Om and vice versa. Further, since Om Shanti Om was carrying better reviews than Saawariya, some multiplexes opted to increase the number of shows for Om Shanti Om at few properties. For instance, Fame Inorbit has as many as 15 shows of Om Shanti Om and 12 of Saawariya. “We added a few early morning shows because there was a lot of demand for Om Shanti Om from the audiences and people do not mind coming in early and paying lesser money for tickets,” says Fame Cinemas programming head Aditya Shroff.
Similarly Cinemax (Versova) too is running an 8.30 am show. However this coming weekend may see a further decline in the number of Saawariya’s shows and also prints at multiplexes.

Comment by rajeev on 14 November 2007:
aditi,
whatever the resaon Its very clear that OSO is a huge hit and SRK rocks .
Its also very clear that Sawariya wouldnt recover its cost and SLB Sucks.
Its not a question of being prosawariya or pro OSO.Its about which movie entertained the most.

Friends, Salam & Happy Diwali to you all.
I have also seen the chart. it is true. But you have to understand that, Saawariya is USA Producer’s movie. So, according to producer’s homeland, India is also a overseas. But USA is not overseas for Saawariya. So including India’s collection & excluding USA’s collection the chart has been made.
If you understand that, the matter is very very simple.

Princess, Let say this 60 cr first weekend gross (India) for Saawariya is true, that is claimed by Sony and provided these figures to Boxofficemojo. On the other hand, Eros also claimed 95 cr first weekend gross (India) for OSO. It means u must also believe these figures too. C’mon Aditi and all of u guys, these are just exaggerated figures given by distributors and producers for cheap publicity. 60 cr gross means approx 35 cr nett gross in 3 days, which means that the first week nett gross should be in the range of 50-55 cr if it collect 15-20 cr in non-weekend days. Is it possible for a movie like Saawariya to earn 50-55 cr, 20 cr more than D:2 first week gross (35 cr). Same is the case with OSO, 95 cr gross means approx 60 cr nett gross in 3 days, which is also totally mad figures.
I will post another article in which both movies performance (in India) in weekend days as well as on monday and tuesday is mentioned.

yar if d2 can do it…oso can also do it…bro its total india+overseas fig …
Comment by mate on 14 November 2007:
Mansoor, i never comment on that. Just wait and see till saturday when BOI or Komal Nehta numbers are out. But looking at the no. of prints, no. of shows and the WOM, I think Saawariya ‘Net Gross’ will be in the range 22-24 cr while OSO ‘Net Gross’ will be in the range 36-38 cr.
Also want to say that most of the Indian trade analysts agree to the fact that OSO is on its way to become one of the biggest blockbuster of this decade. On the other hand, Saawariya will be the major set back of this year.
Comment by Juboraaz on 15 November 2007:
OSO is the most stupid & senseless film I have ever watched in my life….I don’t care what critics say, but I hated the movie….I like SRK but he overacted in this movie like never before….After Chak De, this is a stupid attempt for SRK….DON”T BELIEVE THE CRITICS - GO N WATCH SAAWARIYA…at least 1000 times better than OSO.
