Om Shanti Om Movie Review (Spoilers)

Om Shanti Om is the most awaited Movie of 2007. First of all it is Farah Khan 2nd directed movie after Super Hit “Main Hoon Naa”. Secondly it is Shah Rukh Khan 2nd release this year after critically acclaimed and commercial Blockbuster “Chak De! India” and lastly it has 31 stars in the song “Deewangi Deewangi”.

So major question arises does Om Shanti Om lives up to the expectations? Was Main Hoon Naa a fluke? The answer is yes Om Shanti Om lives upto the expectation and we can easily that it even surpasses Main Hoon Naa in terms of entertainment or anything (Music, Performances, Dialogues, etc).

Story


OM SHANTI OM tells the story of Om [Shah Rukh Khan] and Shanti [Deepika Padukone]. Om is a junior artist in the 70s. Shanti is the reigning superstar. He is her biggest fan. He is in love with her. Om dreams of being a superstar, but an incident changes his life forever.

Om dies in a mishap, but is reborn into the present day. He attempts to discover the mystery of his demise…

Direction


Farah knows what her priorities are and most importantly, knows exactly what her target audience is. The execution of a number of sequences clearly shows Farah’s growth as a storyteller.

Music
Vishal-Shekhar’s music is first-rate. The score is in sync with the content of the film and what accentuate the goings-on are the choreography and execution. Although every song is visually enticing, the 21-star track as also ‘Dard-E-Disco’ will have the masses going into a frenzy.

Technical Aspects

V. Manikanandan’s cinematography captures the gloss and grandeur to the minutest. The opulent sets [Sabu Cyril] deserve distinction marks. Dialogues [Mayur Puri] are witty and do raise a chuckle at several points. Background score [Sandeep Chowta] is effective.

Performances


With each and every film one thing is sure Shah Rukh Khan will be outstanding and in this film to he is outstanding as well. In this film Shah Rukh Khan shows His comic abilities and he is bang on target. It just goes to show his range and versatility as an actor that on one hand he is doing Chak De! India (Offbeat) and on other hand Om Shanti Om where he is playing to the gallery which came easily only to Shah Rukh Khan.

Deepika has all it takes to be a top star — the personality, the looks and yes, she’s supremely talented too. Standing in the same frame as Shah Rukh Khan and getting it right is no small achievement. She comes as a whiff of fresh air!

Arjun Rampal impresses in a neagtive role which suites his image. Shreyas Talpade compliments Shah Rukh Khan wonderfully. Kirron Kher in one word wonderful. Javed Sheikh is good and Bindu leaves a mark.

Conclusion


On the whole, OM SHANTI OM is Bollywood masala in its truest form and also, at its best.

Favourite Scenes


1. The whole Filmfare Episode especially Abhishek Bachchan and Akshay Kumar part.
2. Shah Rukh Khan take on South Indian Films.
3. In first half Shah Rukh Khan speech on winning whisky bottle.
4. Shah Rukh Khan getting lost after seeing the beauty of Deepika or in second half for first time when Deepika sees Shah Rukh Khan.

Audience Reaction
It was outstanding barely 20 Minutes into the Movie people were calling and saying “Zabardast”. Applause were all around and until the end credits didn’t finished people didn’t left there seats.

    WOW great to read this - But in other reviews SRK performance rated as flat ?

    just came back from the OSO first show.And SRK and OSO rocked.The audience even waited for the final credits.Audience had a riot through out.And definitely the movie is going to break a lot of records.

    Hay thax for the review (it was good).

    Sience the OSO promos were out, i was very much sure that this movie will rock. After watching Mai hoo na, i has trust in faraha khan. she understands the mas audience. Her movie, story line, narration reaches wide ranges of audience. Her movie made money in villages and in multiplex, and i would say thats a well made commercial movie.

    I am waiting to OSO, will take my whole family to this movie.

    well aks,i would have loved write an review….but even after 6 hrs since i finsihed watching OSO ,i am still overwhelmed by SRK and his charm on the audinece.(I was watching the movie in a single theatre in Bhubnaeswar)

    I will write a reveiew only after i watch it again on Sunday.

    Now this is very clear that Sawariya will run to empty houses from Monday Onwards.I feel petty on the overconfident director(SLB) who miscalculated the star power of a hardworking actor producer(SRK).I salue the man who have inspired me to aim for greter things ,accept challenges and work hard towards achieving them.

    i just saw the movie here in UK n would u beleive it the whole cinema was pact n nxt 2 shows of the day were also fulling booked…n you could c every age ppl (which shows hw much every1 likes SRK)….well the movie started n with the very 1st scene every1 started laughing…i mean i lovvvvved it…SHAHRUKH KHAN showed his versitality by playing a role that ws completely diff from kabir khan of chak de…n u would question urself “how does this guy do this all??” i loved the whole movie n there wasnt a single scene that wasnt nice. Yeah agree the story line is not something u would like 2 c these days but that was the whole point of farah khan n srk, 2 make it pure masala movie n 1 of the biggest entertainer ever…all the songs were picturised soo beautifully whether it was ajab si, dhoome tana, main agar kahoo, jag sona kage, deewangi deewangi (a treat 2 watch), dard-e-disco (SRK’s six packs woow), n dastaan-e-oso (brilliant use of colours). The scene in the premier of dreamy girl, the scene where he plays rajitkant, the scene b4 the interval, the introduction of SRK in the 2nd half, filmfare awards especially the nominations ( this is something u would never thought of b4 in movies but SRK n farah did it brilliantly), the ending…i mean the entire film was a treat 2 c. I loved deepika as she was veru confident n outstanding, arjun rampal was another treat, shreyas also proved that he can also work in commercial movies, n kiron kher is in a form like never b4.. everything was right in2 the place, the screenplay, the direction (hats off 2 farah khan 4 brilliant direction), the cinematography n the excecution..There was everything 4 a complete masala movie. I mean c’mon guys wen u all can call other undeserving movie without a story an entertaining movie then there shouldnt b any complaints against OSO cz farah wanted 2 make a typical bollywood movie which would have everything, love, romance, villian, frendship, song n dance.

    Go n watch everybody cz its total paisa vasool..i m going 2 watch it again 2mrw..my mind was soo refreshed when i came out of the cinema…n i think thts what 1 can call an entertaining movie..hats of 2 SRK again 4 entertaining us with yet another diff style, n thanks 2 farah khan 4 giving us 2.50hrs of gr8 time…

    my rating 9/10..go n watch it as soon as possible..SRK rocks OSO rocks..

    I haven’t seen it yet, but………….remeber Shah Rukh Khan cannot act more than than being himself. To say he was “outstanding” as usual is slightly bias. He was good in Chak because the director seemed to control him, otherwise he does his normal shaky voice, stutter and veined face in every dramatic scene. I will watch it, because I love Karz, and this seems like a film that takes Karz on as a story about a born again revenge seeking bloke, Karan Arjun apart (nice film, but not a strong a story and performances as Karz).
    I hope it lives up to Karz with Ravi Varma and Kamini, I doubt it. He should leave classics alone, i.e. SRK, never remake a Big B film and Farah is no Subhash Ghai, Don is Don and not a film with a western soundtrack, 70’s clothes and and a woman who thinks she can out do Zeenat (although I would sleep with Priyanka if she made me).

    Himesh is supposed to be making the new Karz, someone stop him.

    A person who doesn’t know about acting will say my Review is Bias. A person cann’t survive in Bollywood for 15 Years at Top without been a Good Actor or Remaining himself.

    Just watch Swades, Devdas, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Veer - Zaara, Mohabbatein, Darr, Om Shanti Om, etc then you will to know how much Great and Versatitle Actor He is.

    Don’t make a Habit of saying those things which you don’t know yourself and when you are corrected you start crying that people is using bad language against me.

Now u will also say that 40+ cr opening nett in India is also due to someone other than Srk. Just come out of ur ficticious world my dear, and see how Srk’s character in OSO as well as the movie as a whole is a rage all over the country. Shame on u and ur silly remark.

    With this weekend earning, OSO has become biggest blockbuster of all times. It has broken the domestic record of D2 85.48 Cr. It has also become all time blockbuster in US and UK and broken all previous records. Since the movie is biggest blockbuster in overseas as well as in india and the rating in the views of public as well as critics is very high. So it has become All Time Blockbuster. In according to Indian newspaper, the movie has collected about 50 Million Dollar (worldwide collection) which is approximately 200 Cr. No bollywood movie has collected this much in the history.
