When Marigold director Willard Carroll first met Salman Khan, what struck him about the actor was his accent!
“It was intriguing and peculiar. Of course, I was a bit taken aback but it was the accent that kept our conversation going.
It was strange to find him rolling his syllables and initially I thought he was doing it for me.
Later, I realised this is the way he talks,” exclaims Carroll.
Fun encounter
Apart from Salman’s Mumbai-meets-Manhattan accent, what Carroll found intriguing was the actor’s sense of humour.
“Salman is such a funny guy. Any talk with him is laced with jokes and digs.
He keeps everyone in splits and you just have to laugh along with him.
”The accent, coupled with his sense of humour, made Carroll’s first encounter with the star both a comfortable and entertaining experience.“In the initial encounter itself we got talking about Marigold and everything began falling into place,” points out Carroll. “Later, Suchitra Pillai, who also features in the film, helped a great deal in getting me through the other actors.”
Marigold, which releases today, revolves around an American actress Marigold Lexton (played by Ali Larter) who arrives in India and lands a small role in a Bollywood musical. Helping her out is Prem (Salman), who is a choreographer in B-Town.
Lit it up
“Salman was a riot even during the shoot,” says Carroll. “We were shooting at Gorai beach and there were three jet skis lying around. One night at around 2 am, Ali expressed a desire to go jet skiing. Salman did not want to say no.
As it was pitch dark, he asked the production guys to line up all the cars of the cast and crew (30 in total) with their headlights on and facing the sea.
The beach was flood lit and everyone was ready to go jet skiing!”Adds Carroll, “Salman turned the night into morning for us. What more could we want?”
