As I have told u I can tell u adlabs report which spread in country with more then 100 screen, saturday and sunday almost 100% except early morning shows which collects 85%. Again booking for 15th august is soaring. I mean today is just monday morning and all shows are 85% full. Even 14th august shows(after 1 pm show) are 50 to 60% full. And report from north and east is mindblowing.

But I still feel Chak De! India is defintely will be Super Hit.
I have seen it with my 8 friends and you know people are telling, this is better or as per with lagaan.

Chak De stumbles abroad

The eagerly awaited Chak De! India scored no goal at the lucrative North American box-office.
In fact, its scanty $351,000 take in three days could enter Shah Rukh Khan’s [Images] all-time hall of shame. The film opened at number 20 on the box-office charts. Its collection from 62 theatres showed that Shah Rukh, who has an invincible record in the US and UK (even Paheli, a dud in India, was a big hit abroad), could not make the film a success.
Even in the United Kingdom, the film has reportedly done disappointing business. Following the poor American and British run of Jhoom Barbar Jhoom, the poorer showing of Chak De is surely a big shock to the producers, Yash Raj Films.
To put things in context, compare the gross of Chak De to that of Partner. The latter opened to a nearly $600,000 weekend in North America and ended its run with a handsome $1.4 million. It made about $1.1 million in the United Kingdom. The Shah Rukh turkey would be lucky to end its North American run with a gross equaling half that of Partner.
There could be many reasons why Chak De is a disappointment at the box-office. One of them is the reluctance by Pakistani and Bangladeshi audiences, who adore Shah Rukh just as Indians do, to see a film which is a kind of cheerleader for India.
‘It is like making a film called Mera Bharat Mahan or Hindustan Ki Kasam and putting Shah Rukh in the lead,’ said an exhibitor who wanted to remain anonymous. ‘No Pakistani or Bangladeshi will want to see a film like those.’
‘But if Chak De had made a powerful impact on Indians,’ he continued, ‘and had they seen the film two or three times, it would easily become a hit and make up for the no-show Pakistanis and Bangladeshis.”
The failure of Chak De comes soon after Anil Kapoor’s [Images] production Gandhi My Father ended its North American run with a crippling $235,000. It did not fare better on the other side of the Atlantic either.
>Both films received fairly good reviews in some of the mainstream publications. In the United Kingdom, Gandhi My Father was praised in The Guardian newspaper.
The New York Times liked quite a few things in Chak De. It referred to Shah Rukh as ‘the assured Bollywood veteran,’ and added that director Shimit Amin ’strikes a buoyant, propulsive tone, replacing the customary Bollywood production numbers with exhilarating musical montages of team practice.’
Shah Rukh received more praise from the reviewer Andy Webster, a junior in the film review department (The Times seldom gets its first and second string reviewers write on masala Indian films).
‘For his part, Mr Khan, to his credit, lets his co-stars’ youthful charisma carry the movie,’ declared Webster.
True, but not to the extent that the film could become even a medium range hit here.

We too agree tht film took a slow start on d first day (Collections were in d range of 60 - 68%).. But it doesn’t mean tht a Hit film always makes money only d first day first show .. If thts d case then there is no point of running a film for 100 days .. The exhibitors can do exhaustive promotion & can have 100% collections on d first day & then d public word of mouth turns negative and remaining day collections gets damped .. All this story is for u guys who say d film is a Hit or a Flop looking at d first show collections .. If thts d case then d low budget Vivah won’t b a hit .. which picked by word of mouth .. No amount of words can be sufficient to praise shahrukh. He just fills my heart with joy, washes away all my worries and entertaines my soul. I consider myself gifted to exist in the same era as him and enjoy his movies
2007’s biggest hit, i have never seen such beautifully directed movie, fantastic…SRK has again done a challenging role. The collections of the film are good and Sharukh’s performance as Hockey coach stood as highlight for the film. It has got the emotional quotient in it that is appealing masses and youth. The film sits in position 2 of the toppers list of the week.

There was good news of some sort for Yash Raj films and Shah Rukh Khan whose Chak De! India fared better in its second week than most Hindi films do, at least in America.
Though it opened to a modest $385,000, it dropped by just about 25 per cent (the customary drop is 50 per cent). With $250,000 taken over the weekend, the film could reach $1 million in North America.

Chak De! India is a Hit and it doesn’t preach. Swades was not a Hit and a few critics found it preachy. Chak De! India has not been panned by a single critic. Swades was panned by a lot. Even Taran Adarsh who is against the Movie has said that it is a Good Movie and has rated it as Hit in Multliplexes and Below Average to Average in Single Screens. CNN-IBN has rated it Super Hit and Vinod Mirani has Rated it as Hit.

Yeah rajeev, you are right, CDI ….made with a budget of only 18 crores shall be rightly termed as “blockbuster” movie if the collection reaches 50 crores (nett) in India.And it is almost certain, since many states of India have already declared the movie as taxfree.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BIG B AND KING KHAN
1-With the sun, moon and the stars aligned in his favor. With the attention of the entire country and the media focused on him. With a tailor made role in a relatively well made movie, Big B failed to save Ek Ajnabee from flopping at the box office. Whereas with the whole world and the media on behalf of Big B trying to sabotage him. With a major movie, J-E-M as a head on competition, SRK still managed to make Don a major hit.
2-Big B’s controversial love story, Nishabd floped so badly that it had less than 30% audience in the halls on its opening day (most halls had less than 10% audience). Whereas SRK’s controversial love story, KANK, broke opening week’s record. It is one of the highest grossing bollywood movies (worldwide gross, i.e. domestic + overseas).
3-After milking the novelty of a fool proof show, i.e. KBC, Big B cowardly abandoned it as soon as the ratings started to slip. On the other hand inspite of the rot that had set in thanks to Big B and the fact that the novelty had worn off, inspite of all the negative press, SRK embraced the challenge and resuscitated KBC.
4-Big B’s best friend (like a brother) is Amar Singh, a flop politician who a lot of Indians consider to be sleazy. Whereas SRK’s best friend (like a brother) is K Jo, a highly respected filmmaker who a lot of Indians consider to be near genius.
5-Big B exploited his leading ladies, Parveen Babi and Rekha. Whereas SRK made his leading ladies his family friends.
I can go on, but what is the point.
The difference is very apparent in the quality of their achievements. There is a reason why SRK is on top of everyones goto list. There is a reason why all advertisers flock to him.

U r right when u say dat srk has a long way 2 go. i just feel dat the media has been unfair to srk. recently i saw a news item on AAJ TAK where dey were talking about DON and how it failed at the box office.
Can anyone please explain 2 me how a movie which made 50 cr at the box office is not a success.the media has something against don just becoz big b said he didnt like the movie.

It was a great movie experience. I am glad majority of people liked it enough to make it a super duper hit. However, what i am thinking is, will it make any difference in our thinking ? Films are a very powerful medium for mass communication. Is this film powerful enough to subtly change the way we see our fellow indians ? Will it finally make us believe that India belongs as much to the muslims as it does to the hindus ? or sikhs ? or christians ? Will it finally make us realize that those chinese look alikes in the north east are OUR OWN countrymen ? Is the movie powerful enought to make us see an indian when we see a “madrasi” ? or a “punjabi” ? If this movie can evoke in us a feeling of love for the adiwasis in chattisgarh for the burly punjabis in the north and the accented madrasis in the south ..if it can make us realize that we are all indians and we must stick together for the advancement of our country, our citizens, If it can teach us to respect our women and stop trying to subjugate them, only then will i see this movie as a success. Otherwise it is just another movie. Think about it guys and gals. We are growing through a time of great promise and great danger. We all need to think together what it means to be an INDIAN. We need to think what kind of society and country we want to build. This is our century INDIA let’s all get together and CHAK DE (lift) INDIA to the stars.

You completely missed my point. Don’t compare our track record with islamic countries. Why compare with the worst of the lot ? Everybody knows that they don’t treat their minorities well. You say ample accomodation has been made for muslims in India - which is undoubtedly true. But you didn’t make those accomodations. They were made by the goverment which plays vote bank politics. Besides i am talking about acceptance. Not accomodation. Also i am sensible enough to believe that part of the problem is the attitude of some sections of muslims itself. Thier leadership is also a big problem. However, we as a nation need to stop expecting muslims to prove their indianness at each step of the way. You reaction is ample proof of your thought process by the way. And it is that thought process which i am hoping for this movie to change.

These songs are really Good!. All credit goes to Kingkhan alone. Now I understand why Sharukh initially does not like the tunes composed by A R Rahman for this movie. Sharukh is king and he sees that everything should be perfect. After Chak de India!, I think its time to promote Sharukh from king to shehanshah! and to demote shehanshah to king. After successive flops of Jhoom barabar Jhoom and Aag… Amitabh should think again his status in Bollywood!. There is no doubt that King khan has reserved the ticket for getting best actor award this year for Chak De India!!. And no one can compete sharukh this year atleast coz there are some actors like hrithik who are like bangladesh cricket team who can win matches with Australia only on their day and not all games!. So you cant compare Hrithik with Sharukh khan!!. Sharukh has got more awards than anyone else in the Industry!. This year the only movie which can compete chak de india is Again Shrakuh khan movie ‘OM SHANTI OM’!!!. But I feel Shrukh will get award for Chak de India- for the emotions he expressed in this movie and ofcourse how can we forget the powerful dialogues!.

Lagaan was overlong and unevenly paced…
Lagaan was hilariously bad. Cartoony acting, dry narration,dreadful dialogue, obvious dubbing, and meandering but ultrapredictable plots were simply part of the package, a bizarre mixture of romance, comedy and melodrama.
Momentum ,charisma and energy was lacking in the film. Characters in the story were flat, myopic, and uncomplicated, the movie’s total focus was on the cricket competition, barring the viewer from getting too emotionally involved in the experience of the characters. It was not at all thrilling….at times the boredom was so sedative that one goes wandering into another galaxy.
No surprise then it could earn less than 40 crores(nett,from India …of course with inflation adjusted to today’s date).
On the other hand Chak de is sure to touch 60 crores (nett) after 7 weeks from India.Period.
This clearly shows greater acceptance of CDI over lagaan.
The only differnce btw 2 movies - Srk -
Super Star ll lift the movie - Srk showed with Chak De india
AAmir was not super Star when laagan realesed Though I feel Laagan is better movie interms of everything - except interms of performance - CDI is better - Srk is better than Aamir in lagaan
