Deepa Mehta puts Big B’s film on hold

Will now direct the Warner Bros film Luna with John Abraham in the lead

John Abraham and Deepa Mehta’s mutual fan club is threatening to spill over several films.

After Water, Deepa had signed her current blue-eyed boy to play a pivotal role in Exclusion, a film that also has Amitabh Bachchan on board.

However, the ambitious epic has been put on hold but John needn’t despair.

He’s doing a more mainstream Hollywood film called Luna, with Mehta!

Gaga about John

Explains the director, “Exclusion is a very ambitious project and is a script I’m writing on my own.

But with my father’s death and my mother moving to Toronto with me, I’m in no mood to apply my thoughts to a script.

Luna almost fell into my lap. Warner Brothers gave me a ready script by David Ward and it was hard to resist.” Of course, it was Deepa’s idea to cast John.

“And why not? After working with him in Water, I realised what a wonderful human being he is.

He brings so much positive energy to the set and is willing to learn and participate.

John was my first and last choice for Luna. If I have my way, I’ll cast him in all my films,” says the director, who has had some very unfortunate run-ins with Bollywood stars in the past.

She brushes them aside to say, “John will be in Exclusion too, but that project is on hold for the time being. Right now, I’m revved-up about Luna. It’s on my favourite subject — the environment.

I’ve always been a child of nature. Water had a very strong ecological element. My love for nature is another binding factor with John. Of course, the fact that my mother adores him just ends all discussion!”
