David Dhawan gets serious
David Dhawan’s next has an unlikely title called By Hook Or By Crook, but the film is far from frivolous.
“Renzil D’silva, who wrote Rang De Basanti, took over a year-and-a-half to script it.
My new film is going to be about youthful desires.
It’s going to be a very different experience for me. You could call it a new start,” says David.
Getting sporty
By Hook Or By Crook is apparently inspired by John Huston’s 1981 film, Escape To Victory. Sports films seem to be the flavour of the coming season.
Vivek Agnihotri’s Goal, Shimit Amin’s Chak De and Nisha Chainani’s Mumbai Marathon all getting sporty on the audience.
“It’s certainly got the feel of Escape To Victory,” admits David. “By Hook Or By Crook has a sports adventure feel to it and there will be four principal actors.
I’m going to finalise the cast in the next fortnight. I want to work with the younger lot of actors. I am very enthused after watching talented young talent around,” he says.
As for his remake of Amar Akbar Anthony, “That’s next year. It’s my homage to my guru, Manmohan Desai.
I passed out of FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) 30 years ago with Manmohan Desai as my role model.
He’s still my role model today. What he taught me continues to serve my purpose as a filmmaker.”
