I think I’m all over the place: Karan

If you thought only models and actors make good cover boys then you are wrong! Guess who is on the cover of the next L’official issue? It’s none other than filmmaker Karan Johar. CNN-IBN caught up with the director-turned-cover boy who admitted that he enjoys being on camera as much as behind the camera.

CNN-IBN: Karan, what is it like being a cover boy?

Karan Johar: That’s not the way I am looking at it. It was just a fashion shoot I did for L’official and Suparna, the editor of the magazine, is a friend of mine. She wanted to do the shoot in New York because I am attached to the city since I have shot two films there. I was almost embarrassed posing in New York because I have always been behind the camera so, this was the first time that I was standing in front of it in freezing temperature. This is something I have never done.

CNN-IBN: Now, there are many ways of introducing you. You started as an actor then became a successful filmmaker and saw you on the ramp also. You are a great TV host and you also hosts shows. How do you manage to do it all? We had heard that you were a shy boy when you were young.

Karan Johar: Yes, I think I am just all over the place. Actually, I enjoy what I do. When I was 12, I wanted to be a designer after that I thought I’ll try my hand at journalism and be a part of the media. Then I thought maybe I should be a filmmaker or maybe I should just be a writer. On some level I thought I should host a television show but today I am doing everything that I could have dreamt of doing.

CNN-IBN: You didn’t become a journalist, it’s good for us or we would have become jobless by now. You enjoy being in the limelight and being famous?

Karan Johar: I do, I have never said that I don’t. I love being behind and in front of the camera. It’s important to have fun in whatever you do.

CNN-IBN: Now you have done a big favour to journalists by asking so many questions on Koffee with Karan because we get a lot of juice from your show. Thank you so very much.

Karan Johar: No, I have to tell you that it was not the intention to satisfy any kind of tabloids or gossipmonger. I do Koffee With Karan because it is a casual, irreverent and fun show.
